The Uttar Pradesh State Government has reportedly decided to cancel University exams this year. Students will be promoted without conducting any examination. However, this will not be applicable for UG and PG course final year exams. A detailed promotion plan has been constituted by an expert committee consisting of three Vice Chancellors.
As per latest reports, the students in first and second year of undergraduate degree courses and first year of post graduate degree courses in Universities and affiliated colleges of Uttar Pradesh will be promoted without conducting any examination. The decision has been taken in view of the ongoing pandemic situation in India. Only those students, who are in the final year of undergraduate and post graduate degree courses will not be considered under the promotion plan.
Approximately 30 lakh university students studying in various UG and PG programs in the state of Uttar Pradesh will be covered under the promotion plan. The plan has been devised by a committee constituted by three Vice Chancellors. These members include Professor Vinay Pathak, Vice Chancellor of Lucknow University, Vice Chancellor of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University, Professor Alok Kumar Rai, Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Ruhelkhand University, Bareilly and Professor Krishnapal Singh.
As per reports, under the promotion plan proposed by the expert committee of the aforementioned Vice-Chancellors, all first-year students studying in UG & PG programs will be promoted on the basis of merit. On the other hand, all second-year students of UG & PG programs will be promoted on the basis of merit in their first-year exam. Students in the final year of all UG and PG programs will be promoted on the basis of final year exams which will be conducted as per schedule.
It is also being reported that a future meeting will be held by the expert committee with the controller of examinations and the vice chancellors of different Universities of Uttar Pradesh to decide the marking scheme for the promotion plan. On the other hand, Universities has been allowed to decide the format of exam for conducting the final year examinations of UG and PG students in Uttar Pradesh Universities.
As of now, the state government has shut down all schools and colleges in Uttar Pradesh in view of the pandemic situation. Date and schedule of conducting the final year examinations will thus be updated as and when the situations become more conducive to conduct offline exams in the state.
