In order to qualify the exam, the candidates need to obtain minimum cut off marks as decided by the exam conducting body. The minimum marks to be obtained by the candidate in order to pass the test are 40%, whereas, it is 35% for the reserved category candidates.

UGC NET is an eligibility test conducted by the National testing Agency (NTA). UGC NET scores are used for Assistant Professor or Lectureship, and only those who are declared so can apply anywhere in India for this position. Furthermore, it determines eligibility for the award of JRF. While UGC NET certificate for Assistant Professor remains valid without any upper limit of validity, that for JRF is valid for three years. The exam was earlier conducted by CBSE. Since December 2018, NTA has been conducting it.

National Testing Agency is the premier testing body in India that has now been conducting several exams such as JEE Main, NEET, UGC NET, AIEEA, DUET, and few more. Except NEET, NTA holds all other exams in online computer based test mode. NTA conducts the UGC NET exam twice a year – June and December.
