Sabitha Indra Reddy, the education minister of Telangana state announced that the Board of Intermediate (BIE) public examinations shall commence from May 1, 2021. The announcement came on Thursday i.e., January 28, 2021, on the official website of the authorities bie.telangana.gov.in. Subsequently, the BIE schedule was also released on the official website. According to the schedule, the intermediate exams for first-year students shall begin from May 1, 2021, while for second-year students, the exams shall commence from May 2, 2021. The time slot for these state-level exams shall be 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The Telangana state education minister announced the official dates for the commencement of the first year and second-year intermediate examination. The formative assessment shall begin in April 2021 whereas the summative assessment shall begin in May 2021. For the first-year students, the exams are scheduled from May 1 to 19, 2021. On the other hand, for second-year students, the exams shall be held from May 2 to 20, 2021. However, the exam time slot for all students remains the same i.e., from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The circular released on the official website bie.telangana.gov.in also stated that the practical examinations for the second-year students shall be organised from April 7 to 20, 2021. These practical exams shall be held for both general and vocational courses. Similarly, the ‘ethics and human values’ paper is scheduled on April 1, 2021, whereas the ‘environmental education’ exam is scheduled on April 3, 2021.

Observing the official notice, it is clearly visible that the Telangana education ministry has scheduled the first year and second-year exams on alternate dates so as to maintain social distancing protocols in education institutions. The first-year exams shall begin with the 2nd language paper I and end with Modern Language paper I and Geography paper-I. For second-year students, the intermediate exams shall begin with 2nd language paper II and end with Modern Language paper-II and Geography paper II.

Every year, the intermediate board examinations in the state are scheduled in the month of March. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the exams for the academic year 2020-21 have been postponed by a duration of two months. They are now scheduled in the month of May 2021 to ease the burden of students. The minister also assured students of strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocols during the examination.

Last week, the Telangana education ministry also announced that Class 1 to 10 exams shall be held from May 07 to 13, 2021. The state government is also planning on reopening schools and colleges for students from class 9 and above from February 1, 2021. There shall be a total of 89 working days with the last working day of the academic year on May 26, 2021.
