As reported in media post the press conference held by the Tamil Nadu’s School Education Minister recently, although students will write the public exams, results of pass and fail students will not be released for three years. This move aims to give students ample time to be prepared in all aspects for the class 10 public exams, and thereafter for class 12.

As per the government order, schools are hereby prohibited, for sessions 2019-20 to 2021-22 batch, to detain students who fail in exams of class 5 and 8. After three academic years, 2022-23, students can be detained if they fail re-examination. Nuances of the prohibition to detention are detailed in the government order released on Friday.

There are mixed reactions to the introduction of public exams for class 5 and 8 students.
