As per the reports, teachers will now have to qualify the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) to take admission to secondary education Schools in Uttar Pradesh. For this, the conducting body will be organizing TET-3 which is referred to as third level examinations. The outline for the same will be released in the academic session of 2021-2022. Moreover, it is also expected that TET examinations will be made mandatory for the 2023 recruitment as well.

Apart from the Government aided schools, the similar changes will also be applicable in all high schools and inter colleges (Class IX to Class XII) of the Uttar Pradesh state. Candidates planning as a career in teaching field in Government aided schools now have to first qualify the UP TET exam. Thereafter, they can apply for any Teaching Recruitment.

Prior to this announcement, the recruitment in the government schools was done by the Public Service Commission and Secondary Education Service Selection Commission. Candidates had to give a written test to qualify the examinations. However, after this amendment, teachers have to clear TET exam first. This will be followed by the written test for teacher recruitment, assessment of educational qualification, interview and teaching performance.

So far, Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UP TET) takes place in two levels – Level 1 and Level 2 The first level is for the classes from 1 to 5. The second level is conducted for classes 6 to 8. Candidates have to obtain minimum 60% marks (55% marks for reserved category) to qualify the UP TET examination. Accordingly to the amendment, UP TET 3 will also take place for the teacher recruitment which will be valid for high school and inter colleges. For this, a committee/ coordination will be established between the Examination Regulatory Authority and Secondary Education Council.

The TET examination is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Board of Basic Education. To apply for the UP TET exam, candidates must have graduation degree from any recognized university. The exam takes place as an offline pen paper-based examination. As per previous year UP TET notification, There will be around 150 questions in both Paper 1 and Paper 2 respectively. Each question will carry 04 options wherein only one option is the correct answer. Every question carries 01 marks and there is no negative marking in UP TET examinations. On qualifying the UP TET exam, candidates will get TET certificate. Recently NCTE announced that the TET certificate is going to remain valid for a lifetime and not just for a few years.
