Department of School and Mass Education, Government of Odisha has issued a new notification regarding admission in Elementary/Secondary classes for the new academic session 2021-22. SME Odisha has declared that admission to any school within containment zones will not be conducted now. In addition, admissions will also not be carried out in satellite schools which have been identified to merge with lead schools. In view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Odisha has promoted all students in Class 1 to 9 for the current academic session.

SME Odisha has issued a detailed notice containing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to be followed for admissions in the current academic session. New admissions to Elementary/Secondary schools are to be completed by May 31, 2021. The admission rocedure is scheduled to be conducted in the morning from 07.00 AM to 09.30 PM on all working days. However, only 05 parents/guardians will be allowed at a time to take part in the admission procedure. The entire process is to be conducted in strict compliance with COVID-19 precautions such as the use of face masks, practice of social distancing and proper sanitization.

It may be noted that for the current academic session, all students of Class 1 to 9 has already been promoted to the next class. Furthermore, it has been decided that for rolling admissions based on promotion, the presence of the parent/guardian is not required. Schools has been instructed to update their admission registers accordingly.

In such cases where the student has to move from one school to another, the Head Master of the present school has been instructed to share the student details, including contact number of parents with the Head Master of the school where the student is going. The school which is taking new admissions can thus contact the parents over telephone and admit the student. Transfer Certificates can be obtained from the present school whenever the student is changing schools. Schools where TMC/Swab Collection Centre/Hospital for Covid are present have bee authorised to perform activities related to issue of TCs and new admission from the nearest Government or Aided/Pry/UP/Secondary school.

For new admission to Class 1, information can be collected by HMs of primary schools from feeder Anganwadi centres, preferably though telephone or Whatsapp. Contact with parents/guardians is also to be done over telephone. The presence of the student is not required for the admission process. As stated earlier, not more than 5 parents/guardians are to be allowed at a time. In addition, parents/guardians are to be intimated about the date and time of conducting the admission process well in advance in order to avoid overcrowding. Parents are advised to go through the official notice available at sme.odisha.gov.in to understand all SOPs and safety guidelines for admission to 2021-22 session.
