NTSE is conducted in two levels. The first one is a state level exam, each state conducts it at its own prerogative. Whereas the second is on national level conducted by NCERT. The first of the two levels for NTSE 2019-2020 will be held in November in Assam by the Directorate of Secondary Education Assam.

There will be 2 papers in NTSE. Timings for each are mentioned in the admit card itself. Students must ensure that they make arrangements to reach the respective test centers at least 30 minutes well in advance to the prescribed time.

Paper 1 in NTSE will be the Mental Ability Test (MAT) of 100 marks having 100 MCQs and paper 2 shall be Scholastic Ability Test (SAT). The limit set to complete each paper by the board is 120 minutes i.e 2 hours for each paper. Neither paper shall have any negative marking.

SAT paper will contain 40 questions from science, 20 questions from mathematics and 40 questions from social science. All the questions will have 4 alternatives and candidates need to fill 1 correct answer in the OMR sheet provided in the exam.

After giving the exam all the exam takers would be able to check their result announced by Directorate of Secondary Education Assam. The NCERT has given the responsibility to the states and Union Territories to announce their results in the month of January or February. The result so prepared is on the basis of the marks achieved in the stage 1 examination.

Qualifiers of stage 1 examination will then compete in stage 2 examination which is the National Talent Search Examination scheduled on May 10,2020. The exam pattern of this exam is same as the stage 1 examination and candidates are allowed to take the test booklet home with themselves.

NTSE is a talent search examination scheme launched by NCERT and with growing time it has also faced many changes in due course of time. Earlier it was specific to science field and then later in 1956 NCERT decided to cater to a broad categories of students through this scheme. It mainly focuses on identifying and nurturing the potential talent within the students by supporting them financially in the form of providing scholarships.
