The Central Trade Unions have called for a nationwide general strike on January 08 and 09, 2019. On these 2 days, National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting the JEE Main 2019 exam. The strike is going to hit all the candidates who have been slotted to appear in the JEE Main 2019 exam on these days as the road and rail transport will be affected.

Candidates will face difficulty in reaching the exam centres. NTA has allotted the candidates the choice of their exam centres, no doubt, but the transport will remain affected due to the strike. This will inturn will create difficulty for the candidates to reach the exam venues.

NTA has already issued the JEE Main 2019 Admit Card to the candidates and has finalised the exam date, time and venue via the hall ticket/admit card. Right now, there is no word from NTA on changing the exam date. However, as per the reports, NTA director, Vineet Joshi has said that they will be holding a meeting to discuss the matter soon.

How Did The Clash Happen?

NTA and Trade Union had no idea about the clash!

As per the reports, Trade Union leaders say that they had no idea that JEE Main 2019 exam was being conducted on January 08 and 09, 2019. They are claiming that the strikes were declared quite early in the month of September. No exam conducting body has approached them with the clash issue.

When asked on postponing the dates, INTUC state president R Chandrasekharan said that it is now not possible to postpone the dates.

The other officials like the President of Kerala CBSE Schools Management Association TPM Ibrahim Khan said that they were unaware of any national level strike on January 08 and 09, 2019.

Trouble For JEE Main 2019 Aspirants

The strike will affect the rail and road transport.

School Presidents are hoping that the strike is postponed as many candidates are worried about reaching the exam venue on time. Many parents are worried about getting their wards on time to the respective centres.

The strike will be 2 days long and will be a major hurdle. Reaching the exam centres on time will be difficult if the transport system is affected. Parents are reported saying.

Trade Unions Blames The Conducting Body

It is being claimed that the general strike was announced in September. It had support from 10 unions – CITU, INTUC, AITUC, HMS, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, UTUC, AIRF and NFIR.

No conducting body had approached the Trade Unions with any representations regarding the clash of dates with the nation wide strike util now.

JEE Main 2019 is being conducted for the first time by NTA. The exam will be conducted for a period of 5 days and in 2 shifts. The paper 2 of JEE Main 2019 exam is being conducted only on January 08, 2019 in 2 shifts. The exam is being held twice a year, first in the month of January 2019 and then it will be conducted in the month of April 2019.

Now it entirely depends upon the trade Unions and NTA to keep the convenience of the students first and try to avoid the clash of strike and exam.
