The number of students who are appearing for Punjab Open School exams 2019 has been dipped in Tarn Taran district. As compared to the previous year, the percentage has been decreased by 92%. The board has shown their concern on this. The dip in the number of students is caused due to a crackdown carried out by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB).
In the previous year, more than 6000 candidates appeared for senior secondary exams. However, this year, the number has been decreased by 92%. So, as per the data shared by the Punjab Board, in the current year, 499 students are enrolling for the open school class 12 exams. The data has been shared by the district education officer (DEO-secondary) Nirmal Singh.
He further added that the board is not conducting the examinations in those 34 centres which were penalized in the previous year. The students of those schools will be able to appear for the exams in some other exam centres. Also, this year, these schools did not get the admissions for the open school examinations.
Earlier, these schools also got the disrepute after the board caught the racket named “Cash for Copying”. Around 4,839 students were caught cheating in the previous year. Also, the PSEB board had penalized these 34 schools with rs. 25,000 per student.
The SDM had also filed the complaint against the racket. The gang was caught after the aids by senior officials of the education department. They stated that the process of cheating was going on from the past few years. In violation of rules, open school students from other districts appeared in schools of Tarn Taran.
