KVPY 2021 1 Month Preparation Plam

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is all set to conduct their aptitude test on November 07, 2021, through the computer-based format. Admit cards for the same have already been uploaded on the official website kvpy.iisc.ernet.in. Candidates have less than a month to prepare for this crucial exam. By clearing this test, candidates can get one step closer to getting a seat at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore. For anyone who’s interested in conducting research in the field of Science, clearing the KVPY 2021 examination is the best way to achieve their dream. For such aspiring students, here are some recommendations for preparation by toppers:

# How to approach the lesser-known subject – Biology/Mathematics?

Unlike JEE Main or NEET, the KVPY aptitude test provides equal emphasis on all four subjects, namely Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Those who have taken PCM combination have no choice but to attempt the Biology section. Similarly, those who are studying the PCB combination have to appear for the Mathematics section. In the case of Biology, students must use this last one month to read the NCERT textbooks thoroughly. Along with reading the textbook, try to solve the previous year question papers. Along with reading the textbook, try to solve the previous year question papers. However, they must address each question with a specific approach – rather than just getting the right answer, students must focus on why that question was asked, what is it trying to imply, what other ways can the question be asked?

Students who are appearing for competitive exams like JEE Main and NEET are already well-versed with the syllabus of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. However, to prepare for Mathematics, they will have to go the extra mile to clear this section. In the last 28-30 days, candidates must solve the Pre-Regional Mathematics Olympiad (PRMO) questions for two reasons – 1. To revise complex Mathematical concepts quickly and 2. To develop a higher and better understanding of the subject.

# Understanding the paper pattern and making a decision beforehand

In the case of KVPY 2021 SA stream, students have to attempt all subject sections. Hence, their paper pattern isn’t as complicated as those appearing for the SB/SX stream. The latter is expected to solve three sections from Part A and any two sections from Part B. Hence, with barely any time left, SB/SX stream candidates are advised to decide on the sections they wish to appear. Based on their decision, candidates must utilize the last few days revising and revisiting their chosen subjects. This is much better than preparing and stressing over all four subjects.

# Don’t miss out on the JEE Advanced and AIIMS-level questions

Solving JEE Main and NEET-level questions is useful to understand the concepts. However, only learning the concepts is not enough. Candidates need to go the extra mile and utilise the last few days to solve JEE Advanced previous-year questions. Even solving this year’s JEE Advanced question paper will prove useful in building a student’s thinking capacity, especially in the last few days.

In the case of Biology, candidates can refer to the previous-year AIIMS questions. Of course since 2020, all students are expected to appear for NEET examination to pursue Medicine. However, before this, AIIMS used to conduct its own entrance exam which would really test the knowledge, thinking-capacity and aptitude of future medical students. Hence, in the context of KVPY, these questions will prove useful, especially to solve the Biology section. While solving these question papers, try to visit the relevant NCERT chapters for a faster and thorough revision of the NCERT syllabus.
