In 2019 many engineering entrance exam has embraced the online mode. However, Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) will not go online this year. KCET 2019 will be held in offline mode only. As per the reports, Higher education minister GT Devegowda had cleared that the exam will not go online in 2019.
Actually, earlier on Wednesday, Devegowda had announced that the test may go online in 2019 or 2020. But with 2 months left for the KCET 2019 exam, this step has not been taken this year. There is a probability that the test may go online from 2020 when the infrastructure is more upgraded.
Right now there is a lack of a strategic plan to take the entire exam process online. It is expected that around 1,8 lakh candidates will appear in KCET 2019.
I addition to lack of a strategic plan, the idea of KCET 2019 in online mode is being opposed by students in rural areas. The students doubt that the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) will not be able to come with training centers for the rural students for the online test mode like NTS had for JEE Main. This, in turn, will create trouble for such candidates.
However, KEA is hopeful that it will be able to take the exam online from the next year and will be able to eliminate the chances of paper leaks and other such issues with the online mode.
