The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are all set to re-open schools by following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the Ministry of Health. These SOPs are in accordance with the guidelines released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Home Affairs. The education ministry released a press release on the official website pib.gov.in on February 3, 2021. The press release informed about JNVs resuming physical classes for Class 10 and 12 in all those states giving permission to do so. Moreover, the official notice clarified that all sanitation and precautionary measures in these schools have already taken place.

JNVs were closed in the month of March 2020 amidst havoc created by the COVID-19 pandemic. The schools shut down after completing their term-end examinations. Following this, efforts were undertaken to train teachers in the aspects of e-content development, teaching and management of online classes. Subsequently, online classes began in the schools with effect from June 15, 2021. Those students without devices were provided with study material, assignments and question banks through special messenger, posts or parents.

The COVID-19 situation is stabilising and many states are permitting education institutions to resume physical classes. Amid this development, the education ministry released a press release announcing the reopening of JVNs in the states giving permission. The ministry further reassured the students that all precautionary measures have already been undertaken within school premises. These measures include sanitization of premises, the arrangement of classes and hostel facility for students, social distancing and COVID-management protocols, etc.

Every school has also formulated separate SOPs in compliance with the SOPs of state government and consultation with the District Administration to efficiently manage the COVID situation. Hence, physical classes in these schools shall resume for standards 10 and 12. However, for the rest of the students, online classes shall continue to avoid academic issues. Moreover, all these students shall be called in a phase-wise manner according to the directions of the state government. Any further instructions are yet to be given by the ministry.

The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) 2021 is scheduled for Class 6 on Saturday i.e., April 10, 2021. On the other hand, the selection test for Class 9 is scheduled on Wednesday i.e., February 24, 2021. The registration process for the examination ended on December 15, 2020. JNVST 2021 admit cards were released on January 25, 2021. Students appearing for the examination can download their admit cards from the official website i.e., navodaya.gov.in.
