JEE Main 2021 Date in Feb and May, Registration Form Deferred – Latest Reports and What They Mean

JEE Main 2021

The exam date of JEE Main 2021, and its registration form availability are the current center of attention in the academia involving higher education.

With NTA and all other officials silent on the matter, a number of reports are doing the rounds.  Here is a look at the latest reports, and facts and analysis on them.

‘JEE Main 2021 will be held twice for sure’

Many students are worried that if the first JEE Main gets delayed too long, then this time the exam may be held only once. However reports assure that that will not happen. This report has some merit to it. The biggest reason is that such a big change in the exam – to change the frequency from 2 times to 1 time is a critical matter. And if such a decision was taken, then it should have been announced by now.

‘Exam date and registration dates of JEE Main 2021 depend on board exam dates’

This is again very true. National level entrance exam dates are quite dependent on board exam dates. As per a mix of latest news reports and statements by officials, the board exams 2021 of some states have been postponed.

This includes Maharashtra – where School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad has said that the SSC, HSC exams will not be held before May 2021, Gujarat – GSHSEB chairman has said that 10th, 12th exams will be in May 2021, Odisha – School and Mass Education Minister Sameer Dash has announced, per reports, that board exams will be delayed (probably by 3 months to May-June 2021).

NTA will most probably decide JEE dates only after at least CBSE confirms its board exam dates.

‘JEE Main 2021 will be held in February and May, instead of January and April’

Last year JEE Main registration started in September, and ended in October. By this time last year, even form corrections had ended. Since even notification for the upcoming JEE exam has not been made yet, the question arises that how can NTA hold JEE Main in January 2021? Therefore, there are quite high chances that the January exam will be postponed to at least February – that is if the engineering entrance exam is held twice at all (which reports claim will happen, NTA will not reduce the exam frequency to 1).

However the final decision on the exam date will be of NTA and other official bodies involved.

‘Registration has been deferred’

That is evident by now. As mentioned earlier, NTA ought to have started JEE Main registration for 2021 January exam in September. With the end of November approaching, the application form is nowhere in sight. Though students need not panic seeing the term “defer” in reports. It simply means delayed in this exam’s respect. There is no official notice concerning deferment of exam per se.

All eyes are set on NTA. Notification is expected this week (again, as per reports). Facts will be clear only when NTA releases the official notification, or at least makes some statement on the critical questions concerning the JEE Main 2021 exam – What will be the exam date? When will registration form be available? Will there be a change in syllabus? Will the exam be held twice or once?
