Doordarshan (DD) Bihar is broadcasting virtual teaching classes for the students of Class 9, 10,11 and 12. After the schools were shut owing to COVID-19, the State Government has decided to air online classes on DD Bihar. The classes are now being broadcasted daily from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM from May 10, 2021 onwards. This initiative aims to provide online tutorial benefits to more than 38 lakh students enrolled in 8000 schools.
Presently, India is battling with the second wave of Coronavirus. With 2 lakh+ cases recorded each day, several school boards have decided to close the schools. Bihar state too has not been left untouched by the COVID-19, hence, schools got closed to protect the spread of the deadly virus. Due to this, DD National Bihar in collaboration with Bihar Education Project (BEP) has come up with a decision to broadcast virtual teaching classes for class 9, 10, 11 and 12.
During these online tutorials, students will be encouraged and informed about the COVID-19 protocols. They will also be made aware of how to protect themselves from coronavirus and stay fit amidst crisis. Online classes of class 9 and 10 will broadcast from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Followed by Class 11 and 12 that will air from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. As per the reports, each period will be aired for 16 to 17 minutes. Also, students will get to know about the schedule of the topics a day prior to the broadcast. The government has asked parents and teachers to ensure that students follow the broadcasting of online classes daily.
Moreover, the digital syllabus for online broadcasting is prepared with the technical support of UNICEF. The curriculum has also been prepared by subject experts with the help of high school teachers. Bihar Government is trying to cover the loss of the student’s education during these epidemic days. As most of the students lack internet facility at their homes, this step by the Government has turned to be a boon to some students. It is expected that over 38 lakh students will get benefit from these online tutorials as the classes are shut.
A similar step was also taken last year when COVID-19 first hit the country. Schools were closed after analysing the effect it will leave on students. However, several students in Bihar reported the non-accessibility of internet services. After acknowledging their concern, Bihar Education Project introduced this program wherein DD Bihar will broadcast classes. It will help students all across the state to access free education.
