NEET 2022 Exam Pattern Explained

The National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2022 is all set to be conducted on July 17, 2022, in the OMR-based pen-and-paper mode. Despite incessant requests, NEET 2022 will be held in a single session, on a nationwide level. However, to compensate for the lack of attempts, National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced certain changes in this year’s pattern. Understanding the revised pattern becomes crucial for effective preparation. With just 47 days left for the UG medical entrance test, students must be well-versed with the paper pattern.

The NEET 2022 paper pattern comprises of three crucial points – 1. Duration of exam, 2. Distribution of questions and 3. Marking scheme. Although a single session is scheduled this year, some important changes have been introduced in the pattern to help candidates ace the exam.

NEET 2022 exam duration – 20 minutes extra

Previously, the UG medical entrance test was held for a duration of 3 hours i.e., from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. However, NEET 2022 shall be conducted for a duration of 3 hours and 20 minutes. Students are expected to attempt and complete the entire paper between 2:00 pm to 5:20 pm. These 20 minutes extra will help candidates choose and attempt selected questions in section B of each subject.

How many questions are there in NEET 2022?

The NEET 2022 question paper will comprise of four subjects – Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. Each subject will further be divided into two sections – Section A and Section B.

As per the NEET 2022 information brochure, section A will cover 35 questions while section B shall comprise of 15 questions. All questions in part A will be compulsory. However, in part B, students must attempt any 10 out of the 15 MCQS given. So, technically speaking, the total questions and time provided is the same as last year. The extra 20 minutes represent compensatory time for extra 5 questions in section B.
