Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has concluded Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2021 exam yesterday, on February 14, 2021. Now the candidates across the nation are looking forward to the release of GATE response sheet, question paper, answer key, and most importantly the result. IIT-B will first release the responses of the candidates. Then, after few days, official answer key and question paper will be released for all the 27 subject papers. Result of GATE 2021 will release on March 22, 2021.

IIT Bombay will release the response sheets of the candidates under their respective logins at GOAPS, appsgate.iitb.ac.in. However, the official GATE answer key and question paper will be available as PDF files on gate.iitb.ac.in. For last 2 years, IIT has been releasing GATE answer key after 9 days from the exam. Going by this the answer keys and the question paper are expected to be available around February 23, 2021.

IIT also have a reputation for announcing GATE result a day before the due date. Hence, it is highly possible that IIT B can announce GATE 2021 result on March 21, 2021. Result of GATE is also announced under GOAPS, as scorecard. In it, marks out of 100, all India rank, GATE score, qualifying marks, number of candidates applied, validity date, etc are mentioned.

The scorecard of GATE stays valid for 3 years. Hence, GATE 2021 scorecard will stay valid in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Apart from IIT, NIT and CFTIs also use GATE score to grant admission. To get admission in NITs and CFTIs, candidates have to apply for Centralized Counselling for MTech / MArch/ MPlan (CCMT). Score of GATE are also considered by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). Each PSU releases its own admission process, dates, and details.

In the words of the experts to qualify the exam this year, the cutoff score will be around 35 marks. For recruitment in the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) minimum 75 marks can be the requirement. While for admission in the IITs, minimum marks needed can be 65.

GATE 2021 was held in 8 sessions spread over 4 days – February 6, 7, 13 and 14, 2021. Each day had 2 sessions. Overall 78 per cent attendance was recorded this year. The exam was conducted in 616 exam centres available in 200 cities. More than 9 lakh candidates have applied successfully for the exam this year.

This year, a new type of question was added in GATE 2021 – the multiple select questions (MSQs). Two new subject papers have also been added in GATE and these are, Environmental Science and Engineering (ES) and Humanities and Social Science (XH). Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is the national level engineering entrance exam for admission to PG programs like M.Tech, ME, Ph.D. in the IITs, and other GATE score accepting colleges. In addition, the scores of GATE exam are also used for recruitment in PSUs.
