Within a fortnight of conducting the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2018, IIT Guwahati has released response sheets, question papers, answer keys. Whereas the response sheets were released four days back, answer keys with question paper have been published today, on February 19, 2018.

GATE 2018 was held for 23 papers. For each paper, and if there that paper was held in multiple sessions then for each session, two PDF files have been uploaded on official website. One corresponds to question paper and another to its answer key.

As per reports, almost 9 lakh candidates had appeared for the exam. Since a large number of them are trying to download answer keys from the official website right now, therefore the site is going down at times. Candidates can get all GATE 2018 answer keys here (alternate links provided to avoid site down issues).

One of the many reasons that important entrance exams are followed by issuance of official answer keys are to make the exam process transparent and fair. To ensure that all stakeholders have a chance to represent their views, option will be given to contest or challenge official answer keys.

How to challenge or content answer keys?

  • Go to GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System).
  • Enter enrollment ID / email address and password. Login to GOAPS.
  • Here you will see module to contest/challenge answer key. You can select question number, and upload document to justify your opinion.
  • You will also have to pay Rs 500 per question challenged.

Candidates can challenge answer keys from 21st February 2018 (10 AM) to 23rd February 2018 (6 PM). All challenges should be submitted within this time frame only.

A very important thing to keep in mind is that the question number should be same as the question number in question paper uploaded by IIT Guwahati. GATE is an online computer based test and candidates received their response sheets containing answers they had marked. Now since it was a computer based test, so sequence of questions can be different from one person’s paper to another’s. So just keep in mind that the question number you have to input while challenging answer key, is the one that is in official question paper.

If the challenge gets accepted, then fee will be refunded. Final decision on which answers are correct will be determined by GATE 2018 committee.

Controversial questions

Unlike many other entrance exams, GATE is a relatively well organized exam. There are very few complaints of incorrect questions or mistakes otherwise.

Nevertheless, some candidates often come across some confusing questions or incorrect answers in answer key. The GATE council looks into all of them so if you think any question answer was incorrect, submit it before the last date.

Did you find any incorrect question or answer in GATE 2018 answer key? Let us know in comments below.

Exam over, next is GATE 2018 Result declaration

Now that exam is over, answer key is also out, countdown to result begins. GATE 2018 Result will be announced on 17th March. However speculations are rife that result could be out on 16th March. On either date, IIT Guwahati will declare result through GOAPS.

Once result is out, candidates will have to decide their next step. Two major options are admission to M.Tech and PSU recruitment.

PSU recruitment cut offs also go very high as seats are quite limited compared to the competition. At the same time, cut offs for IITs are also high as well as that of top NITs. In such a situation, candidates should also consider applying to state level M.Tech counselling.
