CSIR NET 2022 Percentile to Percentage

National Testing Agency (NTA) recently announced the result for the CSIR NET 2022 examination. Individual scorecards were issued to each candidate via the online mode, on the official website csirnet.nta.nic.in. The Council of Scientific Industrial Research National Eligibility Test (CSIR NET) 2022 was successfully held across the country, in January-February 2022. All those who have qualified the exam will get a shot to apply for a fellowship or lectureship position offered by the council.

While checking the CSIR NET 2022 result, candidates stumbled upon two terms i.e., “percentage” and “percentile“. Both terms were used to indicate the respective candidate’s performance. However, there is a vast difference between both terms and so, it is important to know how they are derived.

How is CSIR NET 2022 Percentile Score Calculated?

The CSIR NET 2022 information brochure specifies important information about the curation of results. NTA had conducted the eligibility test in a shift-wise manner, on different dates. So, invariably, there would be differences in difficulty level of the paper, number of candidates in each shift, etc. To overcome these differences and curate the merit list, NTA had to use the normalization process. In this process, the raw score achieved by each candidate is converted into “NTA Score” or “Percentile Score”.

Following is the formula used to calculate the NTA score –

Percentile Score = (Number of candidates appeared in the ‘Session’ with raw score EQUAL TO OR LESS than the candidate x 100)/ (Total number of the candidates appeared in the ’Session’)

This NTA score will then be used to create the final CSIR NET 2022 final merit list. A similar process is followed in other major entrance exams like JEE Main 2022.

CSIR 2022 Percentile to Percentage

In comparison to percentile score, calculating the CSIR NET 2022 percentage is simpler. Following is the formula used to calculate the percentage –

CSIR NET 2022 Percentage = (Raw Score in Exam x 100)/120

It is important to note that there is no direct formula to convert percentage into percentile or vice versa. However, in order to determine both figures, candidates need to make use of the raw scores.

Additionally, while the percentage merely represents the raw score in a different format, the percentile is more useful for competition analysis. It essentially, specifies how a candidate is placed in the overall merit list compared to others. So, the higher the percentile, higher is the rank obtained. This will invariably, enhance the chances of a candidate bagging his/her desired fellowship programme.
