A Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges Karnataka (COMEDK) is all set to conduct the Under Graduate Entrance Test (UGET) 2021 on September 14, 2021. The admit cards of the exam will be made available for download on the official website comedk.org from August 30 to September 13, 2021. Keeping the examination date in mind, candidates have merely a month’s time to prepare for the entrance exam. They must gear up their engines, plan out a preparation strategy and follow it till the very end. To help them out, here is a full-proof UGET 2021 preparation strategy to ace the exam –
COMEDK UGET 2021 syllabus
The first step to devising a preparation strategy is to understand the syllabus. Candidates must ensure that all topics in the syllabus have been covered. Just as no stone must be left unturned, no topic must be ignored while preparing for the UGET 2021 entrance exam. According to the information brochure, the test will cover the existing syllabus or Class 11 and 12/10+2/1st and 2nd PUC. To further clarify this, authorities have also released a separate document specifying all topics for the exam.
COMEDK UGET 2021 paper pattern
Apart from knowing the syllabus, importance should also be given to the paper pattern. An appropriate preparation strategy will be devised from this exam pattern and marking scheme. Unlike board or theory exams, entrance exams like UGET 2021 test a candidate’s intellectual capacity, conceptual clarity and analytical skills.
The UGET 2021 exam will be conducted through the computer-based format covering three subjects – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each section will have 60 MCQs for a maximum of 60 marks. Thus, the overall paper will have 180 questions for 180 marks. An advantage for students is that there is no negative marking in case of wrong answers. However, in case of tie-breaking, the number of negative responses will be considered. Candidates are going to get three hours to complete the paper. Hence, they must allot adequate time to each section to avoid missing out on any question.
COMEDK UGET 2021 study guide
Every student follows a different study routine and has a different learning capacity. While some candidates can study for 8 hours at a stretch, others require breaks after every 3 hours. Rather than providing a fixed preparation strategy, here are some points that can incorporate irrespective of their study pattern –
#1 Learn and short tricks in case of lengthy calculations
The Mathematics section will cover lengthy chapters like Matrices & Determinants and Integral Calculus. Under normal circumstances, the solutions of these chapters will go up to 2-3 pages. However, for entrance exams, there are multiple tricks available to quickly get the answers. Make a list of such tricks and formulae and try to apply it in topic-specific questions. This will help candidates register the tricks rather than mugging them up every day.
#2 In Physics, make a list of formulae, graphs and important cases
Chapters like Electrostatics have a large number of formulae to cover. It becomes easier to list these formulae along with a short explanation. Also mention the instances when the answer is “zero” to save time. In case of thermodynamics, there is a multitude of case-specific graphs. List them down along with cases e.g. volume, pressure or temperature constant. Along with making these lists, make sure to revise them at least once every day till the exam.
#3 Make a list of chemical reactions, specific name reactions and exceptional cases
Class 11 and 12 Chemistry portion covers a long list of chemical reactions pertaining to alkanes, alcohols, acids, ketones, etc. It’s difficult to learn them directly from the textbook or reference book. Hence, list these reactions along with reactants, catalysts used, products formed and specific names. In case of element properties like electronegativity, atomic size and radius, etc, list down the sequence of elements and along with exceptional cases.
Creating these lists seems tedious. After a month, however, candidates will definitely get a sense of confidence while attempting the paper.
#4 The conventional tips – solve mock tests, previous-year sample papers and topic-specific MCQs.
Entrance exams are all about incessantly solving MCQs and properly managing time. Candidates will get only three hours to solve 180 questions. They will have to allot adequate time to each section while recalling multiple concepts under a pressured atmosphere. To do so, they must also have a grasp over all three subjects. Thus, mock tests and previous year papers are the ideal tools.
Along with tips and tricks, candidates also require the ability to follow them sincerely till the end. With hard work and genuine efforts, one can clear the UGET 2021 exam with flying colours!
