CBSE Plans to Change Overall Passing Criteria for Class 10 (1)

In the list of the changes made by CBSE, the board is taking another step. The Central Board of Secondary Education is now planning to make it easier for Class 10 students to pass the exams. Regarding this, CBSE may allow the Class 10 students to obtain an overall 33% to pass the exams instead of gaining 33% marks separately in theory and in the practical exams.

After eight years, for the students who had taken part in the 2018 session, CBSE had made it mandatory to acquire overall 33% marks to pass the exams rather than having separate 33% in the written board exams and in the internal practical exams. But this initiative has been taken for 2018 session candidates.

But now, CBSE is planning to take a call on this issue this week. It is not confirmed that when the board will do so. But it is expected to be done in this week itself. So that the students of class 10 will be exempted from this mandatory clause of gaining the passing marks in the internal assessment component of 20 marks and 80 marks in the board examinations.

As per the latest reports, CBSE is planning to grant this relaxation to the students for the students of 2019 session also.

According to a senior Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry, the step was taken for the 2018 session students as a one-time measure. But now it seems necessary to extend this initiative for 2019 session students also. It will give a sigh of relief to the students. Now, CBSE will take a final call on this proposal.

After the application of this step, around 14,08,594 students passed the board exams out of the total appeared candidates i.e. 16,24,682. The overall pass percentage of the previous year was 87.60%.

In a circular, CBSE has mentioned that the board exams will begin after February 15, 2019. The vocational exams will be held in the month of February 2019 while for the core subjects, the board will conduct the exams in the month of March 2019.

The Central Board of Secondary Education has released the list of the subjects for February/ March 2019 exams of Class 10 as well as of Class 12. The table is separate for the vocational and the core subjects. The list contains the 24 vocational subjects and 48 core subjects for class 10 while for class 12, the list having 83 skill educational subjects and 59 core subjects.
