Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued a public notice yesterday, June 06, 2021, regarding the internal assessments and uploading of marks for Class 12 students. The notice was published on the official website cbse.gov.in. Accordingly, schools are permitted to upload their practical or internal assessment mark through the online mode on or before June 28, 2021. Previously, the deadline for all affiliated schools to upload their marks on or before June 11, 2021. However, the deadline was extended seen as some schools could not complete the task within the stipulated time period.
According to the circular, the list of subjects and breakup of marks for theory and internal assessments has been provided. Along with this, the exam duration and whether CBSE external examiner shall be assigned or not has also been mentioned in the framework of guidelines issued by the board. In case external examiners have not been appointed, the concerned school teacher shall conduct the internal assessments. The assessment shall be conducted through the online mode as per the instructions provided by the board. Marks for same must be uploaded on the link provided by board authorities.
There are cases where CBSE has appointed separate external examiners to conduct the online assessments. In such cases, the examiners have the right to decide to choose the date of exam. However, this decision must be taken after discussing with the internal examiners. They must also conduct the Viva voce through the online mode.
The internal examiners have been instructed to share the examination date with students well-in advance. This is to provide ample reaction time to students before the conduction of online assessments. Following this, internal examiners must also share the online link with the students and the external examiners on the exam day. Here again, assessment shall be in accordance with the instructions provided by CBSE.
As per the issued notice, as soon as the exam is completed, marks are to be uploaded on the link that CBSE provides. School authorities are instructed to enter the marks carefully, without requiring any corrections. CBSE shall not entertain any future correction requests in this regard. Both internal and external examiners must bear in mind that marks given to students must not bunch towards the maximum marks. The reason is that students have diverse intellectual capabilities. Hence, all students receiving the same or highest marks is highly unlikely.
Internal examiners have been advised to take on-screen photographs of all students while conducting the viva voce for the boards and school records. This captured photograph must have the picture of both internal and external examiners as well along with the student. However, according to the circular, this practice of uploading a candidate’s photograph was halted due to the COVID19 pandemic. It must again be implemented by schools while uploading the marks.
All affiliated schools are instructed to follow social-distancing protocols while conducting these internal assessments. Furthermore, all schools have been instructed to complete the uploading of marks before June 28, 2021. These online assessments are being conducted to evaluate the Class 12 students. As CBSE Class 12 board exams have been cancelled, these assessments might play a key role in determining the Class 12 results.
