Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has published the complete curriculum for class 10th students at cbseacademic.in. Students can check the subject wise syllabus and details of exam at cbseacademic.in/curriculum.html. As per the scheme of studies in the curriculum,
CBSE has divided subjects of class 10th in three types, 9 subjects, and five groups.
Subject 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are compulsory subjects.
Here, subject 1 means language I that is hindi course A or hindi course B or english language and literature. This is group L.
Then subject 2 is language II, that is any one from the group of languages (group-L) other than language chosen at subject 1. This is also group L.
Subject 3 is mathematics. Here, students can choose between basic and standard. Syllabus for both is the same, however, basic math paper will be easier. However those who wish to study math in class 11th should pass standard mathematics. Mathematics subject is group A1.
Subject 4 is science. Also group A1.
Subject 5 is social science. Again in group A1.
Next comes subjects 6, and 7, which are optional.
Subject 6 is skill subject, it comes in group S.
Subject 7 is language III, or any academic subject other than ones opted above. It is group L or group A2.
Co-scholastic subjects are subject 8 and 9 assessment and certification at school level. It is art education, health and physical education, work experience.
If a student fails in a compulsory subject, mathematics, or science, or social science, but passes in skill subject, then that skill subject will replace marks of the subject in which he or she failed. Result will be computed as per that then.
Similarly, if a student fails in a language subject taken between subjects 1 to 5, then it will be replaced by language taken in sixth subject, if no skill subjects were offered, or seventh subject. This is applicable if the student passed the language subject and after replacement, either Hindi or English is one of the passed language in first five subjects.
Students should have studied either Hindi or English in class 10th.
More than 17 lakh students are studying in class 10th under Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Like every year, the board exams will be held for the academic session 2019-2020, for which date sheet is expected to be released in November or December.
CBSE has also released sample papers and marking scheme for all subjects for 10th exams. Students are encouraged to download and go through them before exam.
