The Board of Secondary Education, Assam, has reduced the academic syllabus of Class 9 and 10 by about 40% for the academic year 2021-2022. The decision has been taken in light of the disruptions caused to the educational scenario by the COVID-19 pandemic. Assam Board has announced the decision officially through a public notice on the official website sebaonline.org.
The latest notice by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam reads “this is hereby notified for information of all concerned, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the educational institutes had to be closed from the 3rd week of April 2021… Therefore, the Board of Secondary Education, Assam, has decided to reduce the Course Curriculum of each and every subject approximately by 40% in comparison with the Academic session 2019…“
As informed by the Assam Board through the official notice, while schools were closed during the pandemic, the only way to conduct classes was online. However, as observed and intimated by the Board, most students could not attend the classes due to various reasons.
In light of the aforementioned circumstances, the Assam Board has concluded that significant academic loss has taken place and it will be difficult for both students and teachers to cover the course curriculum prescribed by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam for the Academic Year 2021-2022.
Thus, the Assam Board has decided to reduce the syllabus as per conditions specified in the official notification. The syllabus for Class 9 and 10 has been reduced by 40% of the syllabus during the academic year 2019. The reduction in the syllabus has been done for convenience of students of Class 9 and 10 in board examinations.
The Board will provide the revised syllabus in PDF format to all concerned Inspectors of Schools. The same will be circulated among various Heads of Schools, teachers and students of the Assam Board. Besides, a copy of the revised Assam Board syllabus will also be uploaded on the official website of the Board of Secondary Education, Assam i.e., sebaonline.org.
It may be noted that the Assam Board has decided to reduce the syllabus of the Class 9 and 10 curriculum only for examination purposes. This means that the exams will be conducted as per the revised and reduced syllabus in the academic year 2021-2022. However, there is no constraint over teachers to teach the whole curriculum, if possible. The decision has been taken to ensure that students can have adequate knowledge of the course content although, the exams will be held as per the reduced syllabus.
