Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) has postponed the written examination for Assistant Engineer for Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical under Public Health Engineering Department, Assam. This OMR based test was earlier scheduled on April 19, 2020. Acknowledging the outbreak on novel coronavirus and nationwide lockdown, the exam is now postponed until further notice. The new notification with the updated examination dates will be released at the official website, apsc.nic.in. Check the official notice given below:
Through this OMR based test, eligible candidates are selected for 33 advertised vacancies. These vacancies are further divided into different services/post – AE (Civil) – 20 posts, AE (Mechanical) – 07 posts, AE (Electrical) – 03 posts, AE (Chemical) – 03 posts. The vacancies of Assistant Engineer Civil are again distributed amongst different categories. 11 vacancies are for open category candidates, 02 vacancies are for OBC, 01 for SC, 03 vacancies for STP, 03 vacancies for STH. However, out of total vacancies, under the post of Assistant Engineer Civil, 02 posts are reserved for PWD candidates and type of disability.
Once the candidates are shortlisted after the examination, they are recruited in a fixed grade pay. Each post that is advertised under Advt. No. 14/2018 has a fixed and same scale of pay. Assistant Engineer (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical) under the Public Health Engineering Department, are paid Rs. 30,000/- 110000/- (PB-4) with Grade pay of Rs. 12,700/-. This also includes dearness allowances that are provided as per the rules.
The syllabus for these posts is already published on the official website, apsc.nic.in. Under the direct recruitment tab, APSC Assistant Engineer Syllabus for Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, and Chemical is uploaded. In the exam for each post, there are 02 subjects from which the questions are asked. First, is the degree-based subject. This means if a candidate has applied for Assistant Engineer Civil then the questions are going to be based on Civil Engineering. The syllabus for the Screening Test of Assistant Engineer is based on subjects studied at degree level. Apart from the standard questions from the degree course, some objective questions are asked from General Studies subject also.
The duration of Screening Test conducted for Assistant Engineer under Public Health Engineering is of 02 hours each for a particular post, this makes the examination 04 hours long. In this period, applicants are expected to attempt as many questions as they can. The total marks for every post are 400 (200 marks for General Studies and Eligibility based post).
The selection of these posts is done through 02 ways – screening test or interview round. If a large number of candidates apply for the posts then the selection is done through shortlisting of candidates based on the marks obtained by them in the academic examination. Or the conducting body holds the screening test for the selection of the candidates. This screening test is conducted as an OMR sheet based test where candidates have to attempt multiple choice questions in the exam.
