Several students appeared in NEET 2018 had also appeared in AIIMS 2018. Now, on one hand, the counselling for NEET is ongoing, and on another, the result of AIIMS is awaited. Last date to register and fill choices for the former is 5 PM of 18 Jun 2018, which is also the date of declaration of AIIMS 2018 Result. Moreover, it has been reported that AIIMS will announce the result at 6 PM on that day.
Now many students are a little flustered on what to do next. Those who are expecting good ranks in the entrance exam for All India Institute of Medical Sciences are getting second thoughts on participating in All India Quota counselling. They are waiting to see whether the institute declares results before the deadline for choice filling of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test.
However the good thing is that the last date to pay fee for NEET 2018 Counselling is 19 Jun 2018, by which time, AIIMS entrance exam results will be announced officially.
Here it is prudent to point out that the wise thing to do is to participate in MCC counselling even if you get a good or average rank in AIIMS. This is because it helps you explore good options if you don’t get admission in AIIMS of choice.
Another dilemma point will be during seat allotment and counselling. Whereas in MCC counselling, candidates will get the result of first round seat allotment on 22 Jun 2018, they will be participating in a first round of counselling for AIIMS from 3 to 6 Jul 2018. Those who get a seat in the first round of seat allotment through NEET will have to report from 23 Jun 2018 to 03 Jul 2018.
Due to this, there may arise such cases where candidate books his seat through NEET and later if he/she gets a good seat in AIIMS, the former is left. It is a widely known fact though that multiple counsellings lead to blocking of seats and in the end, it leads to vacant seats in many colleges.
However, to make sure that such cases are minimal, both MCC and AIIMS hold multiple rounds of counselling. Last year, an open round of counselling was also held for AIIMS Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur, Rishikesh, where 4, 10, 3, 3 seats were vacant respectively.
MBBS admissions in India is an extremely competitive process. Over 14 lakh students compete for 90000 seats. Many, who dream to get a college of choice decides to drop a year. In this regard, candidates are advised to take the final decision on year drop only after participating in counselling; every year many candidates do not participate in counselling only, but anything can happen and you may get a seat so do participate in counselling at least.
If after counselling, you do not get a seat, do not be disappointed. Keep in mind that there are various fields to explore like BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BYNS, all in which admission is on basis of NEET. Even then, if you have decided to drop a year, then you should start preparations with good spirits and with a good strategy.
Here is wishing all the students, best of luck for their AIIMS 2018 Result, NEET 2018 Seat Allotment. You can ask all your questions in the comments section below.
