A substantial confusion has surfaced with the NTA revising the exam date of the JEE Main 2021 3rd Session exams. The NTA is going to conduct the 3rd Session exams on July 20, 22, 25, & 27, 2021. Initially, this session was supposed to end on July 25, 2021.
On the other hand, the JEE Main 2021 4th Session exams are scheduled to be held from July 27 to August 02, 2021. Students are confused over the fact that the exam date of July 27, 2021, has been chosen to host both the 3rd & 4th Session exams now.
It is not clear how NTA is going to conduct the exams for both sessions on a single exam date. As per a recent news report, NTA has apparently said that 4th attempt will not be postponed. However there is no such notice on the official websites. And it seems impractical to have a common date in the two attempts.
As per official records, more than 07 lakh candidates are registered to appear in the 3rd session exams.
Even with the earlier dates, students expressed dissent as there was only a 02 day’s gap between the end of the 3rd session exams and the start of the 4th session exams. The situations have become even more confusing now that even the 02 days’ gap has been removed with July 27 standing as a common exam date. As per the new schedule, both the last exam date of the JEE Main 2021 3rd Session exam and the first date of the JEE Main 2021 4th session exam have been scheduled for July 27, 2021.
Microblogging website Twitter flooded with posts from students demanding further postponement of both sessions. Registered candidates tagged the new education minister Dharmendra Pradhan requesting a postponement of the exam dates. Hashtag #JusticeForJEEAspirants is still trending on Twitter as students keep demanding postponement.

The NTA has reportedly clarified that there is no change in the exam date of the JEE Main 2021 4th session exams as of now. This has led to substantial confusion as students are left wondering how they may appear in the test on the same day. This is particularly applicable for those candidates who are to appear in both the 3rd & 4th session exams this year. It may be noted that the NTA is conducting the JEE Main 2021 in 04 sessions this year in a bid to provide candidates with the opportunity for multiple attempts.
In the light of the current situations of overlapping dates, the entire purpose of providing students with multiple attempts is being jeopardised. While the NTA has not yet shown any signs of postponing the 4th session exams, it is being anticipated that the dates may be postponed.
Another idea surfacing is that candidates who are to appear in the 3rd session exams on July 27, 2021, maybe allocated a different date to appear in the 4th session exams in order to ensure that their exams do not overlap. Although feasible and possible on pen and paper, it is highly impractical for candidates to be appearing for the exams in such a manner.
