Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur is all set to begin the Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) 2022 application process from today, August 30, 2021. Interested and eligible candidates can apply for the entrance exam on the official website gate.iitkgp.ac.in. They are expected to complete all registration formalities by September 24, 2021, without any late fee. However, with late fee, candidates can submit their forms latest by October 01, 2021.
GATE 2022 examination is planned to be conducted on February 05, 06, 12 and 13, 2022. However, exam dates are a secondary concern for candidates. Right now, they must focus on submitting their forms without any mistake. To help them in the application process, here are 5 things that they must remember before the process begins –
#1 To apply for two papers, submit only ONE application form.
This year, candidates have been specifically instructed to fill and submit only one application form, irrespective of whether they apply for one or two papers. In case a candidate submits a form separately for each paper, he/she will be forced to choose which paper to give. For example, if a candidate submits separate forms for Aerospace Engineering (AE) and Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering (NM), he/she will be asked to choose between AE and NM rather than appearing for both papers. To avoid this mishap, candidates must remember to fill and submit only one application form.
#2 In case of opting for two papers, decide a primary choice of paper beforehand.
As mentioned before, IIT Kharagpur has permitted candidates to apply for two papers through the same application form. However, while opting for two papers, they are supposed to have a primary choice of paper. This will be their “default choice”. The second paper must then be chosen from the list of allowed paper combinations. Candidates are not allowed to opt for a combination other than the ones mentioned in the list. Hence, to avoid any confusion or rejection of application form, aspirants must go through the list and select their combination before filling the application form.
#3 Keep a valid photo ID ready before the examination.
During the application process, candidates have to enter the valid photo ID number at required places. This valid photo ID can include the Aadhar Card, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID or Driving License. In case candidates do not have any of these documents, they are instructed to procure any one of them before starting the application process.
#4 Keep scanned copies of the required documents ready before the exam.
While filling the GATE 2022 application process, candidates are required to upload important documents as per the format and dimensions mentioned by authorities. These documents include
Candidate’s Photograph – 3.5 cm Width × 4.5 cm Height, in the JPEG/JPG format
Candidate’s Signature – height : width = 1.0 : A, where value of ‘A’ can be between 3.25 to 3.75, in the JPEG/JPG format
Category Certificate – ONLY applicable for SC/ST categories and issued by competent authority
Person with Disability (PwD) Certificate – the disability benchmark for GATE 2022 is equal to or more than 40% impairment
Dyslexia Certificate – for such candidates, a scribe will be provided by GATE 2022 authorities
#5 The application fee varies depending on the candidate’s category.
According to the GATE 2022 information brochure, female candidates as well as those from SC, ST, PwD categories have to pay Rs.750 as application fee. Other candidates are expected to pay Rs.1500. However, after September 24, 2021, female and SC, ST, PwD category candidates must pay Rs.1250 while other candidates are expected to pay Rs.2000 as application fee.
