Delhi Education Minister, Manish Sisodia, took to his official Twitter account today to make an important announcement about Nursery Admission 2022 in the state. Accordingly, the admission process for nursery or entry level has been extended by two weeks. Precisely speaking, the admission deadline has been extended to January 21, 2022, from the previous deadline of January 07, 2022.
His tweet reads, “Keeping in view the prevailing Covid conditions, the last date for filing applications for admission in nursery/ entry level classes in Private schools of Delhi is being extended for further two weeks.“
This decision comes at a time when the union territory is reporting an exponential increase in COVID-19 infections. This prevailing situation is the reason behind extension of deadline, as clarified by Sisodia in his tweet.

Earlier, private schools had begun the nursery level admission process on December 15, 2021, for the upcoming academic year 2022-23. The application window was scheduled to close down tomorrow, January 07, 2022. Moreover, the DoE had clearly informed schools that any deviation from the official schedule will not be permitted. So, this decision to extend the deadline does come as a surprise, contradicting the initial stance of the directorate.
Surprising as it may be, the Nursery Admission 2022-23 schedule had been released in November 2021. Since then, circumstances have changed and the number of daily COVID-19 infections has increased tremendously. This has prompted the DoE to extend the deadline, giving more time for parents to complete the application process.
Approximately 1,800 private schools across the national capital are participating in the Nursery 2022-23 admission process. Although the application deadline has been extended, there are no changes in the rest of the schedule. So, the first merit list of shortlisted students will be out on February 04, 2022. This will be followed by a second merit list on February 21, 2022. A third or final merit list, if required, will be released on March 31, 2022.
As per the DoE directives, each private school will be displaying the admission schedule on its notice board as well as official website. Moreover, each school needs to ensure that application forms are available till the last date of application process. To shortlist students, an admission criteria needs to be formulated which is “reasonable”, “fair”, “well-defined” and “non-ambiguous”.
To ensure that the admission criteria adopted by each school is fair and justified, the DoE has also set up a monitoring cell in each district. This cell will also make sure that all private schools its district have uploaded the admission criteria and online modules on their official website. With such stringent measures in place, there is little room for any mishap or issue in the admission process.
