Of the many subjects that give students sleepless nights, mathematics tops the list. An at times rational, at times irrational fear grips the minds of many students right before their maths exams. And the panic escalates like a geometric progression, in the final year of schooling. Thus, many might agree that for class 12th students of CBSE board who will appear in the February-March 2020 exams, the mathematics exam is the most dreaded of all.
One of the many ways to get over this feeling is to be better prepared, using the CBSE class 12 maths sample paper 2020 that is now available for download. The Central Board of Secondary Education has published the mathematics sample paper, its marking scheme, and the detailed curriculum on its official website cbseacademic.nic.in. The curriculum was published earlier, and the sample paper came later; and as per CBSE, the sample paper gives an exact idea of the paper and not the curriculum, and there could be slight differences in the two.
The CBSE Class 12 Maths Sample Paper 2020 makes the exam pattern, and distribution of questions clear.
The CBSE class 12 mathematics question paper 2020 will be of 80 marks in total. Exam duration will be 3 hours. In the sample paper, and so will be in the actual paper, there are 4 sections A, B, C, D.
Section A has 20 questions of 1 mark each, a total of 20 marks. Section B has 6 questions of 2 marks each, therefore overall 12 marks. Then section C has 6 questions of 4 marks each, so total 24 marks. And section D has 4 questions of 6 marks each, totalling 24 marks. There are internal choices in 3 questions of 1-mark type, 2 questions of 2-mark variety, in 2 questions of 4-marks category, and 2 questions of 6-marks questions section.
In the sample paper of CBSE class 12 mathematics exam, for the 2020 exams, questions 1 to 10 are multiple choice questions. That is in these questions, the question is followed by 4 options with single correct answer. Then questions 11 to 15 are fill in the blanks type. And questions 16 to 20 are calculation based.

Will there be step marking in CBSE class 12 maths paper?
Is an often asked question. The marking scheme published by the board makes it clear that for several questions, there are step marking. There will also be marks for figure. For some of the shorter-answer variety questions, the marking scheme shows that marks are overall for solving the question and arriving at the answer. For longer questions, the marking scheme also shows how many marks will be given for which steps and which figure.

The curriculum says that the CBSE class 12 mathematics question paper 2020 will have questions worth certain fixed marks from each unit. As per it, there will be questions worth 8 marks from relations and functions, 10 marks from algebra, 35 marks from calculus, 14 marks from vectors and three dimensional geometry, 5 marks from linear programming, and 8 marks from probability. Also, 20% of the paper will be require memory recall, 35% will be understanding based, 25% application based, and 20% on analysis, evaluation, creation.
