KIIT and KISS felicitated 11 athletes from KIIT University who represented India and secured medals at the recently concluded World University Games (WUG) 2025 in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany.
KIIT became the first Indian university in 65 years to achieve such a significant medal tally at the WUG.
Silver medalists received a cash award of ₹3 lakh each, while bronze medalists were awarded ₹1 lakh. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT & KISS, presented the awards in the presence of Olympians and other sports personalities.
Dr. Samanta noted that KIIT contributed six of India’s 12 medals at the event, the highest by any university in India. He called this a proud moment for KIIT, KISS, and Odisha.
Medal Winners:
- Silver: Ankita (3000m Steeplechase), Praveen Chithrawal (Triple Jump), Seeman (5000m Final).
- Bronze: Men’s 4x100m Relay Team (Sahkanth Hoblidhar, Animesh Kujur, Lalu Prasad Bhoi, Matyam Jayaram Dandapati), Women’s 20km Race Walk Team (Munitap Rajpathi, Mansi Negi, Sejal Anilsingh), and Avinash Mohanty (Badminton).
Event Highlights:
KIIT athletes showcased strong performances across track, field, and badminton, securing six medals overall.
The ceremony was attended by Prof. Sharanjit Singh (Vice-Chancellor, KIIT-DU), Prof. J.R. Mohanty (Registrar), Dr. Gaganendu Dash (Director General, Sports & Yogic Sciences), and Olympians Dutee Chand, Srabani Nanda, Amiya Mallick, Shradhanjali Samantray, and Bhavani Devi.
