WBJEE 2021 Mathematics Paper Analysis

West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB) has successfully conducted paper 1 of WBJEE 2021, which was of Mathematics. Paper 1 was started at 11 am and ended at 1 pm. The examination was held in offline pen-paper mode at all 274 exam centers across the state.

As many as 75 multiple choice type questions were asked in paper 1.

According to the students, questions from Algebra, Trigonometry, and Co-ordinate geometry were almost easy to moderate level. Whereas, questions from the Calculus section were comparatively tricky and time-consuming. While asked, many students said that they are more than satisfied, as the overall level of the paper was easy to moderate.

The number of questions from algebra and trigonometry were more. Whereas those from calculus were fewer in comparison to past years.

According to media reports, over 92,000 candidates had registered to appear for the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2021. Approximately, 32,000 aspirants from Assam, Tripura, Jharkhand, and other states also registered. While, knowing the students’ opinions regarding the July 17, Mathematics paper, we got to know that the difficulty level was not that hard, as it was expected.

As far as WBJEE Mathematics paper structure is concerned, there was a total of three categories of questions with 50, 15, and 10 questions respectively in the Mathematics paper. The question paper was designed in different paper codes. The aspirants were given OMR sheets to indicate their responses to the questions by darkening the appropriate circle completely with blue/black ball-point pen.

Analyzing the WBJEE Mathematics paper, the educators said that the pattern of paper 1 was very much on the lines of last year. The number of questions across sections remained the same as that of the previous year. This would have come as a huge relief for the aspirants.

There were some surprises, as questions of Algebra and Trigonometry being on the slightly easier side as compared to previous years. This was a huge positive for the candidates who prepared with basics.

It should be noted by the candidates, that each correct response in category 1 questions yields 1 mark, whereas, all incorrect responses yield -1/4 or 0.25 marks. For any combination of responses with more than one option, the answer is to be treated as incorrect and will yield -1/4 marks. Not attempting the question fetches zero marks. However, the scoring methodology for categories 2 and 3 differs.
