Uttarakhand is home to several wonderful schools. While there are 17,752 government schools, there are many notable public as well as independent schools. In fact the state is the first choice of many for boarding schools. Class 12 PCM students in any school needs to know the top engineering colleges. To that end, it is common to refer the college rankings published by different magazines by surveyors. However each one publishes rankings on their own parameters.
To bring some uniformity to the system, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was set up by MHRD to bring an official college ranking in India. As promised, the NIRF rankings are now released yearly, and the last one that was published was the NIRF ranking 2019. In the NIRF engineering ranking 2019, there are 5 engineering colleges from Uttarakhand. Students from the state that was formerly Uttaranchal, can take note of this list to help narrow down their search of good engineering colleges.
The first in the list is the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee with NIRF rank 4 on an all India level. IITR is the oldest technical institution in Asia, and today, it has a total of 22 academic departments including engineering, humanities, social sciences. Its main emphasis is on technological education and research. The college provides admission to students into the B.Tech, B.Arch. and integrated M.Sc.integrated M.Tech courses through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). it is interesting to know that apart from the main campus it has a separate campus spread across 25 acres in Saharanpur offering courses in Polymer Science, Process Engineering, Paper Technology & Packaging Technology.

The second college in the list is Graphic Era University with an all India rank 104 . The institute had launched its UG core engineering programme in the year 2008 and in 2015 NAAC awarded grade ‘A’ to it. The college attracts some big multinational companies like adobe, accenture, WIPRO, TCS, IBM, HCL with many others.
Next in the list is G.B.Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar whose NIRF rank is 141. Students who want to pursue their career in agriculture can definitely opt for this as its main focus is in the research of agriculture and engineering. Admissions to B.Tech. programmes are done on the basis of merit of joint entrance examination. The important point to note here is that it is the residential university and hostel accommodation is compulsory with separate hostels for girls, married couples and working women.
Another university that put Uttarakhand in the NIRF rankings map, by being one of the top engineering colleges in India, is University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun. School of Engineering at UPES has a variety of B.Tech programs to offer. To list a few are chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, civil and health safety engineering, petroleum engineering and earth sciences.
Apart from those in the NIRF rankings, one college that is rated highly by students is NIT Uttarakhand. The National Institute of Technology is a public engineering institution founded in 2010 and is recognised as an institute of national importance. It offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses through JEE mains and GATE respectively. For the placement purpose companies like NSE, ramco systems, infosys, Mu sigma have recruited students from here. Organizations like code chef and DRDO has also visited the campus. Looking at the 2018-19 record the maximum pay package was 10.5 lakhs per annum and the average was 6.8 lakh per annum.
It is worthy to note that while one college may do well in one ranking, it may be completely absent from another. Students can themselves judge between two or more colleges by going through their research papers published, placement statistics, and overall student reviews. Thus here is a list of all the other engineering colleges in UK (Uttarakhand, India), not in any ranking order, but simply alphabetically.

As far as the colleges are concerned all colleges are good in some or the other way, some in terms of placement, some in terms of academics and others. It depends upon the individual how much he or she takes the best out of the place they are studying in.
After deciding upon the colleges, students need to check the admission mode – most colleges accept JEE Main scores, however few have their own entrance exams. For example UPES is conducting UPESEAT 2020 from May 8 to 15, 2020. It thus becomes important, as the next step, to apply for the exams at the earliest, and appear in them.
