Latest: We contacted the officials they have confirmed that no decision on MP PET has been taken yet and there is no guarantee that the MP Pre Engineering Test will be revived.
Madhya Pradesh Pre Engineering Test (MP PET) 2019 may be held in June. That shall happen if the state finalizes upon reviving the entrance test. The decision could see the light of the day in view of report of MPATPI or the Madhya Pradesh Association of Technical and Professional Institutes that was submitted to the minister of technical education on decline in engineering admissions in Madhya Pradesh state since 2014 when PET was scrapped.
KC Jha, Convenor MPATPI has stated in a newspaper report that the association has filed a memorandum with Minister Bala Bachan. There are around 200 engineering colleges in the state, all of which were not facing any issues in admission until PET existed. Since 2014, MP engineering admission has been on basis of JEE Main.
Lately, almost 50% seats in the colleges have remained empty. One of the reasons behind it, as per the association, is that students from remote places in the state do not appear in JEE for lack of nearby centres. Also, many students presume that JEE being a national level exam will be tough.
When DTE used to organize MP PET and Vyapam used to conduct it, the state widely advertised the engineering entrance exam thus advancing engineering education in the state. Discontinuation of MP PET has thus seen a sharp decline in admissions.
A parallel has also been drawn with Maharashtra CET by the Association. They have observed that ever since Maharashtra introduced state level engineering, there has been a 50% rise in engineering entrance exam takers.
Also, a number of students take admission in first year degree engineering BE / B.Tech courses on basis of class XII marks. They too can then participate in MP PET once it is reintroduced.
The Minister will take a decision on this matter in the coming days. It is as of now a matter of equal chances whether the MP PET 2019 will be held or not.

If you have made up your mind about studying engineering in the state, then I would recommend that you also keep preparing for JEE Main. JEE Main 2019 April will be held from 6-20 Apr 2019, and for that, registration is starting on 8 Feb 2019. Since it is still unclear whether MP PET 2019 will be held or not, you should focus on the confirmed exam at least. However, if you want, you can prepare for MP PET simultaneously.
