The state of Gujarat will finally have a new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) by the end of the year 2022. The pre-investment activities for this project are already going on, for which the government has allocated funding of Rs.1195 crore on January 10, 2019.
The pre-investment activities include soil survey and topographical survey, which are in all progress by an Executing Agency. The new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot, Gujarat is being set up in a free of cost land that the state Government had handed over to the Government of India. The Cabinet has approved the timeline for completion of the project by October 2022. The approved cost of the project including cost of pre-construction activities is Rs. 1195 crore.
Talking to a reputed daily, Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat Nitin Patel announced that the Centre had decided to set up an AIIMS hospital with a bed capacity of 800-1,000 in Rajkot. The State government will allocate about 1,200 acres of land free of cost.
Earlier, the Government has made available funds to new AIIMS projects in the country, to enhance facilities/infrastructure. Total of 21 new AIIMS has been sanctioned.
Of these new AIIMS projects, the AIIMS projects of the state of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, 2 in Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal are under constructions
And out of the new 21 AIIMS, the AIIMS that are already functional are in the states of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Uttrakhand.
In all to set up these 21 new AIIMS projects a total of 7,777.07 crores of the capital fund has been released by the Government of India.
The All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) are a group of autonomous public medical colleges of higher education. These institutes have been declared by an Act of Parliament as Institutes of National Importance.
The courses that the AIIMS offer are MBBS, B.Sc. (Hons), B.Sc. (Post Basic), B.Sc. (Hons) in Medical Technology in Radiography and the Bachelor of Optometry, MD/MS/MCh(6yrs)/DM(6yrs), MD (Hospital Administration), MDS, MSc (Nursing), M Biotech and MSc, DM, MCh and Fellowship Programme and the Ph.D. courses are also offered.
