The essay question asked in the XAT 2022 exam held today, on January 2, 2022 was this: Capitalism and Democracy Can’t Coexist.
XLRI had re-introduced essay section in the XAT exam this year. With an essay question, the institute seeks to understand the candidate’s ability to think, analyse, and represent one’s thoughts in a comprehensive manner – an ability that often plays a crucial role in the life of a business school graduate.
The essay question was asked as a part of the GA (general awareness) section. There were 25 questions in GA plus this one essay question. A total time of 25 minutes is given to attempt this section.
Note that the Essay question is only evaluated for those candidates who are shortlisted for GD, PI.
Also, the marks in essay question are counted for final merit.

Pointers for a good essay in XAT exam
In the XAT exam, the essay section is marked against the following parameters, as per MBA gurus – structure, knowledge, ideas, approach, and grammar.
Some candidates have a good grasp over the English language, but are not so good at ideating. Others may have good ideas and approach but a poor written English. Here, the high scorers of essay section are those who have a good grasp of both, or at least a balance of it all. To know about the topic, present one’s own ideas on it, and to put them into words all are important in this section.
XAT 2022 was held for around 70-75,000 candidates across India. The response sheet is expected to be released in 2 days time, and the official answer key in 4-5 days. Thereafter the result of this exam is expected to be out in 14-15 days.
