West Bengal Police Sub Inspector Recruitment 2019 Notification: Last date to apply for 668 vacancies is 9 September

WBPRB has notified 668 vacancies of Sub Inspector. The West Bengal Police Recruitment Board is therefore conducting WB SI recruitment 2019 through preliminary test, physical measurement test, physical efficiency test, final combined competitive exam, and personality test. The application form for this recruitment is available online as well as offline. Both notification as well as form can be obtained from the official website

Last date of submitting application online or downloading offline form with challan is September 9. However, the last date of depositing application and processing fee in respect of online form is September 12. Dates of preliminary exam and other selection processes will be announced later.

Application fee for SC, ST, and other categories respectively are nil, nil, and Rs 250. Likewise processing fee are respectively Rs 20 for all. Thus the total fee amount is Rs 20 for SC, ST, and Rs 270 for all other categories.

The vacancy details stands as follows: There are 494 vacancies of sub inspector in police in unarmed branch (UB), and 174 for the same in armed branch (AB). Unreserved, SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B category vacancies for WB SI in unarmed branch are respectively 272, 109, 29, 50, 34. In the same order the vacancies in armed branch are respectively 94, 38, 11, 18, 13. Thus in total there are 366 vacancies of unreserved category, 147 for SC, 40 for ST, 68 for OBC-A, and 47 for OBC-B.

There are seven points of eligibility criteria that one must satisfy in order to be eligible for sub inspector post in West Bengal Police. First point is citizenship, candidate should be citizen of India. Second is the educational qualification, bachelors degree is required. Third is language, applicant must be able to speak, read, write Bengali. Fourth criteria is age.

Applicant should be between 20 to 27 years old as on January 1 of this year. The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC, ST, then 3 years for OBC of West Bengal only.

The fifth criteria is physical standard. Candidates are advised to ensure that they meet the physical standards before they apply, so that they do not have the bear the brunt of rejection at time of PST. Candidates of all categories, except Gorkhas, Rajbanshis, Garwalis and Scheduled Tribes, should be 167 cm tall (5.479 feet). Gorkhas, Rajbanshis, Garwalis and Scheduled Tribes should be 160 cms tall. The former should have 79 cm chest and 56 Kg weight. Whereas the latter should have 76 cm chest and 52 Kg weight. This requirement is for sub inspector in unarmed branch.

For the armed branch, candidates should be 173 cm tall (5.67585 feet), 86 cm chest, and 60 Kg weight. Gorkhas, Rajbanshis, Garwalis and Scheduled Tribes should have 163 cm height, 81 cm chest, and 54 Kg weight. The minimum chest expansion for all candidates should be 5 cm.

Then comes the sixth criteria, which will be in the form of physical efficiency test. Candidates will have to run 800 metres within 3 minutes. The last criteria is that physically handicapped candidates cannot apply.

Those who apply will be issued admit cards prior to exam. The preliminary exam will be held on date and time decided by WBPRB.

Preliminary exam will have general studies with 50 questions and 100 marks, logical and analytical reasoning with 25 questions and 50 marks, arithmetic with 25 questions of 50 marks. It will be of 90 minutes duration. The test can be either offline or online, as per the final decision of the board. Negative marking of one-fourth marks allotted to the question will be applicable in the case of incorrect answers.


General studies section will have questions to test the general knowledge of candidates in different spheres. Likewise logical and analytical reasoning section will test these things. Arithmetic will have questions based on class 10 (madhyamik) standard of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.

West Bengal state has two police forces. One is the West Bengal Police, and the other is Kolkata Police. Founded in 1861, the force today has seven police ranges, three zones, and a railways zone. South Bengal zone covers Presidency range and Murshidabad range. Western zone covers Burdwan range, Midnapore range, and Bankura range. And North Bengal zone encompasses Jalpaiguri range, Malda range, and Uttar Dinajpur.
