WBJEE 2018 will be held on April 22, 2018. There will be two papers – paper I for mathematics, and paper II for physics & chemistry. Information brochure and other key details of the exam are now available, they were released today.
The first point of significance is that WBJEE continues to be offline aka pen and paper based examination. With several of its counterparts such as JEE going online, WBJEE remains an offline exam, which is a good thing for most aspirants being familiar with pen and paper exams since childhood.
The next point to be noted is that all the important dates for WBJEE 2018 have been announced. To start with, the application form will be available from December 19, which is exactly a month away. Candidates will get exactly one month window to apply for the exam, that is the form closes for submission on January 19, 2018. Thereafter they can download the confirmation page until January 24, 2018. For a short stretch, four days to be precise from January 26 to 28, 2018, will be open for form correction. This is followed by a long gap wherein there are no events as such until April 10, 2018. On that date, West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board will issue the admit card for entrance exam.
April 22, 2018, is the big day on which the WBJEE 2018 exam is. This will be followed a wait of a forty four days, after which, on June 5, 2018, result will be announced.
Last year reportedly 1,00,433 candidates became eligible for counselling for engineering. Whereas 1,00,175 were eligible for pharmacy counselling. An interesting fact that emerged last year was that students from CBSE board constituted 47% of the list of qualified candidates.
The topper of last year’s WBJEE engineering entrance exam was Debaditya Pramanik of Birla High School, Kolkata. Two students from South point High School were also among top 10 rank holders. 26% students who qualified were from WBCHSE.
The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination comprises of questions on three subjects namely Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. There are a total of 155 multiple choice questions. Maximum marks that can be scored in WBJEE 2018 is 200. The questions are divided into three categories namely I, II, III.
In category I, the questions have a single correct answer. There are 50, 30, 30 questions each of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry. Each correct answer is for one mark. Incorrect answer in this type of question leads to a deduction of 0.25 mark.
In category II, the questions have single correct answer again. However here, the marks for a correct answer is two. By the same token, negative marking is 0.5. The number of questions is 15, 5, 5 for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry.
In category III, the questions have one or more than one correct answer. If all correct options are marked then it fetches 2 mark. Whereas if partially correct answer is marked then it fetches 2 x number of correct options / total number of correct options. Here the number of questions for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry are 10, 5, 5.
