Vellore Institute of Technology has decided to conduct the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) 2021 in the online remote proctored mode for admission in 2021-22 session. Earlier, the Institute decided to conduct the exam in June 2021 as a Computer Based Test. However, in light of current pandemic situation in India, the Institute quickly preponed the exam date and has now to be held from May 28, 29 & 31, 2021. Now that the exam will be held in the Remote Proctored Mode instead of CBTs, the Institute has issued guidelines to take the test in the online remote proctored mode.
Candidates must know at first, that an online remote proctored exam is one which does not require them to go to any physical exam centre and take the test along with other examinees. Instead, the exam can be taken online from the comfort of one’s home. However, to take the RPE from home, candidate must have the following three equipment/facilities.
- A compatible laptop
- A working mobile phone
- Stable internet connectivity
As per the detailed guidelines issued by VIT for the VITEEE 2021 ORPE, a Windows/Linux/Mac computer (Laptop or Desktop) is required as the primary device and an Android/iOS mobile phone is required as a secondary device. These devices will serve to administer the test while the exam will be conducted under strict invigilation (proctoring) by the Institute.
Complete specifications of the aforementioned 3 must haves for the VITEEE 2021 Online Remote Proctored Exam are indicated in the detailed guideline published by the Institute. A 64-bit OS is required for all platforms (Windows/Linux/iOS). Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 are the compatible OS versions while on Linux, the compatible OS versions are Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04.
Candidates must also have an Android 8 (or above) supported mobile device along with a front facing camera. Those who are using iOS devices must have at least iOS 13 (or above). These devices must be connected to internet with upload/download speed of at least 256 KBPS or above.
One must note that the VITEEE 2021 in the ORP mode will be completely monitored by the Institute at the backend leaving candidates with no opportunity to resort to any kind of unfair means during the exam. It may be noted that any kind of interruption during the exam which lasts for more than 5 minutes at a stretch will lead to the termination of the exam automatically.
In order to ensure that candidates do not resort to cheating and use any other unfair means to pass the test, VITEEE will proctor the exam in real time by collecting and analysing data from the primary and secondary devices. Here are some of the imperative ways one can get caught cheating in the VITEEE 2021 Online Remote Proctored Test.
- Do not leave your seat during the exam.
- Both devices should be connected to the internet only. Connection to any other device will lead to disqualification.
- The applicant must be the only one present in the premises/room from where they are taking the test. The proctor does a 360 degree check of the room using the primary & secondary devices and presence of any other occupant will lead to disqualification.
- Use of headphones (wired or wireless) is strictly banned. If you try to use headphone to cheat, you will automatically be disqualified.
- Candidates must not switch/open other tabs on the browser, nor attempt to open any other computer application during the test. Doing so will lead to disqualification.
Candidates are therefore advised to refrain from any such activity which are deemed to be attempt of malpractice and can get anyone disqualified immediately. One must remember that the Institute will record and analyse audio & video feedback during the exam. Candidates are advised to refer to the detailed list of prohibited activities at the time of mock tests before the exam. One must adhere to these strictly as even an iota of violation is deemed as cheating.
