India Today magazine has released a list of top business schools across the country in various categories on October 23, 2020. The list was prepared based on a comprehensive survey conducted by Marketing & Development Research Associates (MDRA). It is a Delhi-based firm dedicated to market research. MDRA established various parameters and eligibility criteria for B-schools to fulfill in order for them to be included in the list.
The list of top 10 private B schools was decided on 5 main parameters such as selection process, governance and establishment, learning experience, living experience, future orientation and placement performance. Business schools also had to fulfil certain eligibility criteria to be included in the survey like they must offer fulltime classroom management programmes, must have been established at least 5 years ago completing a minimum of 3 graduating batches, etc.
More than 2,500 B-schools in the country fulfilled the eligibility criteria and were included in this comprehensive and extensive survey.
Here is a list of top 10 private business schools 2020 in the country according to India Today and MDRA.
S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai topped the list of top ten private colleges for business studies in the country. Xavier School of Management Jamshedpur secured 2nd rank whereas Management Development Institute, Gurugram has secured rank 3 in the top 10 list.
SVKM’s NMIMS, School of Business Management, Mumbai is another institute in the financial capital that has secured a spot in the list with rank 4.
Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad has secured rank 5 in the top 10 list of private B-schools in the nation. Rank 6 has been secured by International Management Institute, New Delhi. Symbiosis Institute of Business Management and Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development are two institutes in Pune that have secured ranks 7 and 8 on the list.
Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai has been ranked 9 in the list whereas T.A. Pai Management Institute, Manipal has secured the 10th spot in the top 10 list. From the list, it is clearly evident that Maharashtra is the leading state in terms of private B-schools. A total of four private business schools, two from Mumbai and two from Pune have made it to the top 10 list.

This year the ratio of government and private B schools in this list is 56:44 in the ranking range of 1 to 25.
As per India today, from the survey a positive insight that has been drawn is that, in 2020, the average annual starting salary for graduating students has risen by 7.6 per cent, with the return on investment rising to 1.24.
