The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has merged the syllabus of group 2 and group 2A exams. A notification containing the new syllabus has been published at tnpsc.gov.in. It contains the prelims as well as mains syllabus, exam pattern in English and Tamil.
In the new TNPSC group 2 and 2A syllabus, applicable for the 2019 notification, there are ten units to study for general studies for the preliminary exam. They are general science, current events, geography of India, history and culture of India, Indian polity, Indian economy, Indian national movement, history culture heritage and socio-political movements in Tamil Nadu, development administration in Tamil Nadu, aptitude and mental ability.
Whereas the mains exam will have seven titles. Tamil to English translation, English to Tamil translation, precis writing, comprehension, hints development, essay writing, official letter writing.
The essay writing will be on following topics from Thirukkural. Significance as a secular literature, relevance to everyday life, impact of Thirukkural on humanity, Thirukkural and universal values of equality humanism and so on, relevance to socio-politico economic affairs, philosophical content in Thirukkural.
TNPSC Group 2 and 2A 2019 notification on the new syllabus says that the prelims exam will be of 3 hours, for 300 marks. Wherein 90 marks will be the minimum qualifying marks. The prelims exam will be objective. There will be general studies of degree standard with 175 questions. Then there will be aptitude and mental ability test of SSLC standard with 25 questions. So in total there will be 200 questions.
The mains exam on the other hand will have two parts A and B. Part A will have Tamil to English translation, English to Tamil translation. Both the sections will have 2 questions each. Each of the question shall carry 25 marks. So each section will weigh 50 marks.
Then part B will have precis writing, comprehension, hints development, essay writing, letter writing. Here each section will have 2 questions. Each question will be of 20 marks. So each section will be of 40 marks. This way the whole mains paper will be of 300 marks.
For the interview posts, candidates will get marks out of 300 in mains exam, marks out of 40 in oral test or interview. So their scoring will be out of 340 marks. Minimum qualifying marks will be 102 out of 340. Whereas for the non interview posts, candidates will only be scored out of 300 in mains. For them, the minimum qualifying marks will be 90.
In the cases of interview as well as non interview posts, the minimum qualifying marks shall remain same for all communities.
Now that the revised syllabus has been released, it is expected that the TNPSC Group 2 and 2A Notification 2019 will be published soon. It has been reported that the notification will be released next month, in October.
Government job aspirants in Tamil Nadu have been waiting for the notification since May-June, when it was originally supposed to release as per the commission’s yearly calendar. Last month, it was reported that few changes are in line for the exam, which have come true with this new syllabus.
