Maharashtra Education Department has released a notice for SSC and HSC students. All the sports winners who got the medals at the district and the divisional level will get extra five marks in their board exams. This is really an appreciated step taken by the Maharashtra Board to encourage the sports spirit among the students. Earlier the government has awarded the extra marks only for the state, national and international winners. But now, the board has decided the same for the district level winners.
On December 20, 2018, Maharashtra state board has released the notice for the state, national and international sports winners. But after this, the board has received the requests in a large number across the state to award the extra marks for the district and divisional sports winner.
As per the state governments, the district tournaments would consider tournaments by Directorate of sports and youth affairs, Nehru Hockey cup, Subroto Mukherjee Football tournament and the competitions organized by the Paralympics committee of India for physically challenged children. At the same time the students who will win received the certificates of their wins in any of these tournaments. Along with this, the events are organized by the district association and not invitational competitions.
Also, as per the information releases in the notice students from Maharashtra Board has to submit their certificates to avail the extra marks in the board examinations.
Sports coach Anand Gandhi stated that going for the district competitions and receive the medal is not so easy. This is really a big boost for the students who are willing to participate in the sports event at the state level. By encouraging sports among the young generation results the betterment of the education system. Therefore, Maharashtra state has taken up this step at the SSC and HSC level.
Maharastra State board conducts the board examinations annually in the month of March. About lakhs of students have appeared for the examinations at the state level. Board examinations play a very important role in career growth. Therefore, to balance the education and extra curricular activity among the students extra five marks for the students. It is not mandatory that a student after the completion of the secondary and higher secondary education pursue his or her career in the same field. Therefore, keeping in mind the same thing Maharashtra board has come up with this attempt.
