Punjab Police department will soon conduct recruitment to fill various posts with around 5,000 vacancies. The decision to fill these many vacancies has been taken by the Punjab cabinet as a part of its initiative to fill 19,000 vacancies in the state.
It has been reported in recent news that the Punjab Chief Minister, Amrinder Singh has issued orders to hold recruitment for 19,000 government job vacancies. This includes 5,300 vacancies in the electricity department, 5,000 in the police department, 2,500 teachers, and 5,000 paramedic, specialized staff among others.
It has been 3 years since any major recruitment was done in Punjab Police. The last time significant Punjab Police recruitment was in the year 2016. In that year, 13 different recruitment were done. To start with, there were 7,416 vacancies in constable, 750 for constable driver, 725 for intelligence assistant, 430 vacancies for sub inspector, and 388 for constable operator. Then there was constable sportsperson recruitment in Punjab Police for 289 vacancies, jail warder post had 267 vacancies, constable in spu post carried 200 vacancies. For the post of intelligence officer, there were 112 vacancies, constable academy had 73, SI operator post had 29 vacancies, and sub inspectors sportspersons post had 17 vacancies.

Until the mid-sixties, the border with China and Pakistan, in the state, was manned by Punjab Armed Battalion, before the Border Security Force came into being. Today, the department claims to be constituted by responsive police personnel who are equipped with modern communication devices, information systems, and have their well established scientific labs.
Punjab Police recruitment 2019 will either be announced separately for each post, or be initiated through a common notice. First the notification for post or posts will come. The notification will have complete details of vacancies, requirements, age criteria, selection process. Then either with it, or after it, application form submission shall begin. A few things, related to form filling, are anticipated to be different from last time, as technology has advanced the last three years.
After application forms get submitted, applicants will get admit card or call letter. Then depending upon post, and whatever selection process is decided for them, candidates will attend relevant exams, physical efficiency test, standards test, and so on.
Depending upon the posts that have vacancies, 10th pass, 12th pass, graduates will be invited to apply. Besides educational qualification, physical parameters will be set for each post, category and gender wise. Police jobs are quite popular among government job aspirants in India.
Recently, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered the setting up of a committee that will recommend how to improve service conditions of police personnel. The major issues that need to be solved by the committee include duty hours, stagnation elimination, housing problems, and liberal leave procedure.
