PSTET 2019

Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test (PSTET) 2019 is the state level teacher eligibility test. A notification is doing the rounds in the social media about the exam date for PSTET 2019, and its online application form dates.

As per the notification, PSTET 2018 (yes, it says 2018) was earlier decided to be held on November 10, 2019. Now the revised exam date is November 17, 2019. Advertisement for the exam will be released by SCERT at pseb.ac.in on October 19, 2019

It also says that application form will be released only in online mode. It will be available at the website from October 21, 2019, to November 4, 2019.

The notification is only available on social media.

Is the PSTET 2019 notification real or fake?

There are various official websites where PSTET 2019 notification may come – pseb.ac.in, ssapunjab.org, eproc.punjab.gov.in, educationrecruitmentboard.com. However there is no notification on any of the websites. No notification has been published in newspapers also yet.

However there is no certain way to say that it is a fake notification, because sometimes inter department letters or notifications get leaked on social media first. Even then, candidates who are actually preparing for PSTET or any TET, and want to appear in PSTET 2019 should only refer or apply when official notification appears in any of the official websites.

The last PSTET that was conducted was PSTET-2017. It was conducted in the year 2018, on February 25. Prior to that, the TET was held in 2015, in which, only 12% had passed paper 1 and 3% passed paper 2. In that year, a total of 36,974 ETT passed candidates had appeared in TET 1, and 1.29 lakh B.Ed pass candidates sat for TET 2. In TET 1 and TET 2 respectively 4,442 qualified, and 4,351 qualified.

In a related news, ETT and TET Qualified Unemployed Teachers Union representatives and members are organizing movements to demand employment. That, and other demands have been put forth. This includes releasing Punjab teacher recruitment notification for at least 15,000 vacancies, removing the 55% marks requirement in graduation criteria, relaxing the upper age limit of 42 years.

The members also demand that teachers on extension be relieved and instead vacant posts in schools should be filled afresh. Also, it has been asked that vacancies get filled in schools, recruitment process get completed in a given time, and that there be 1:30 teacher to student ratio upto secondary level. The government has also been requested, by the members, that unemployed candidates get Rs 2,500 unemployment allowance per month.

Last month, reports came in that the state government (of Punjab) had initiated processes to start recruitment to around 19,000 vacancies. Around 2,500 vacancies of teachers are included in it.
