Around lakhs of candidates all over India are frantically searching for latest news on NEET 2020 and JEE Main 2020. CBSE has cancelled pending board exams for class 10 and 12, due to increasing number of COVID cases. Hence, there are speculations that national level entrance examinations might also be delayed.
MHRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has not made any announcement regarding the postponing of the examination yet. However, students and parents all over social media are demanding for postponing of both the exams.
After the decision of CBSE exams, students have tweeted demanding a decision for JEE Main 2020 and NEET soon. Hashtags like #postponejeeneet #postponeneet #HealthOverNEETjee #NoExamsInCovid have been trending since days now.
It was earlier expected that decision on the exam date of JEE Main 2020 and NEET 2020 will be announced on June 22, 2020. However, it was delayed until June 25, 2020. However, until now no decision has been announced on the postponement of both the exams.
With no postponement decision on these exams yet, the exam date for JEE Main 2020 remains as July 18 to 23, 2020, and for NEET 2020 it is July 26, 2020. JEE Main shall be held in computer based mode. Whereas, NEET 2020 will be held in offline mode.
JEE Main aspirants who plan to appear for JEE Advanced 2020, have to note that if JEE Main 2020 is postponed, the dates of JEE Advanced are likely to be affected. The current date of JEE Advanced is August 23, 2020.
Initially, NTA planned to hold JEE Main 2020 exam on 05, 07, 08, 09, 11 Apr 2020, and NEET on May 3, 2020. But these dates were delayed as the nation went under lockdown. With the ease of lockdown throughout the nation, new dates of JEE Main and NEET were declared. However, the cases are now soaring higher than ever. This led the candidates to prefer their health over exams.
Reports suggest that JEE Main 2020 and NEET 2020 will be postponed, given that the board exams have been. Also, it is not possible to conduct these exams amidst the pandemic and the rising cases. Officially no comment has been made on this yet. Reports also suggest that in all, around 24 lakh students are to appear for the JEE Mains 2020, JEE Advanced and NEET 2020 this year.
NEET is a single medical entrance exam. 15% all India quota seats in medical colleges are filled on the basis of NEET AIR, in MCC counselling. Whereas, the rest of the seats are filled in state-level counselling. NTA conducts JEE Main 2020 for admission of 12th passed candidates in B.Tech, B.E, B.Arch, and B.Plan course offered by various engineering colleges of the nation which includes the NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, etc.
