NRA CET Official Notification 2020

There is finally proper information on NRA CET official notification 2020. The National Recruitment Agency (NRA) shall conduct its first Common Entrance Test (CET) in or from September 2021. NRA CET 2021 is set to replace the exams that are conducted by RRBs, SSC, and IBPS.

That the agency shall hold exams from this month has been stated by the Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh, in the ongoing Lok Sabha Session.

NRA CET 2021 and thereon exams shall be used to shortlist candidates for govt jobs in Group B non gazetted, Group B gazetted yet exempted from UPSC consultation, and Group C posts. This exam will be computer based test(s). As of now these exams are primarily by Railway Recruitment Boards, Staff Selection Commission, and Institute of Banking Personnel Selection. Considering the recent RRB exams, it can be said that 1-2 crore government job aspirants shall be taking the NRA CET.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh elaborated upon the newly commissioned National Recruitment Agency (NRA) in response to 5 questions placed before him in Lok Sabha. He was asked (1) the purpose of NRA, (2) institutions under the agency, (3) role in selection, (4) language of tests, and (5) time from which it will become functional.

What is the purpose of National Recruitment Agency (NRA)?

In order to have a single body to focus on selection of candidates for such roles in govt jobs where the requirements are similar, the NRA has been set up by the Government of India. It will hold the first round of selection for Group B (non gazetted, and gazetted where UPSC consultation is not required) and C posts.

Which institutions shall come under the scope of NRA?

The 3 bodies namely Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), Staff Selection Commission (SSC), and Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) shall come under the purview of NRA.

What will be the role of NRA in RRB, SSC, IBPS recruitment?

Singh made it clear that the establishment of the NRA to conduct the CET exam does not indicate existing agencies will cease to exist. Instead, the CET will serve the purpose of initial screening of candidates only. However, the final selection will be conducted by the respective agencies i.e. SSC, RRBs or IBPS based subsequent tests. Candidates will therefore need the CET score to appear in domain specific exams/tests conducted by existing government recruitment agencies.

Will NRA CET be in regional languages and how will it be uniform for all candidates?

One of the fundamental purposes of setting up the NRA to conduct the CET exam is to provide a common platform to all candidates. Thus, in response to the context of the language in which the CET exam will be conducted, Minister Jitendra Singh indicated that the agency will identify language experts and translate the papers into various regional languages as included in the 8th schedule of the Constitution. However, Singh also added that this is subject to requirements and the availability of an adequate number of candidates opting to take the test in a regional language.

From when will NRA CET be conducted?

NRA is looked forward to conduct CET from September 2021. Therefore it is anticipated that the detailed notification on NRA CET shall be out in the year 2021 only.

Here is the complete text of the question answer from the lok sabha session.
