Previously, the Union Ministry of India had set its target to increase the number of MBBS seats by 10,000 across the various Indian States, namely Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Punjab, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttrakhand, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Manipur. Which now seems not to be accomplished!

It has been 4 years since the authorities had given this statement and some states like Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, among many others have not been able to witness the rise in the number of MBBS seats. As per the data published by one of the national dailies, only Odisha (200 seats), Punjab (100 seats) and Gujarat (170 seats) have seen the progress in this sense!

The Commissioner of Medical Education, Sheo Shekhar Shukla says that the Union government is on its way to inspect the facilities available to increase the number of seats, probably this year. Although, the faculty related issues across these “to be built new government medical colleges” have already been dealt with by the authorities. If the Government approves their request, then by the end of this year, aspiring medical students will see a ray of hope in terms of the scope of this field getting widened. This move will also help the State to tackle the meagreness in terms of the number of doctors in each State.

For MBBS Admission in India, various national level entrance exams are conducted, like NEET, JIPMER and AIIMS MBBS. National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) is conducted by the National Testing Agency, which shall be conducted on May 05, 2019 in offline mode. The NEET 2019 application process has already been over with! The next event related to this medical entrance is the issuance of admit card on April 15, 2019.

Jawaharlal Institute Of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER 2019) is an online medical entrance exam for admission to its Puducherry and Karaikal branch. The JIPMER 2019 application process is yet to commence from March 06, 2019 till April 12, 2019, on its official website,  www.jipmer.puducherry.gov.in. JIPMER conducts this test for the MBBS programme, that it offers for a duration of 4 years and 6 months.

AIIMS, New Delhi conducts a computer-based medical entrance test for MBBS admission. This test is scheduled to be conducted on May 25 & 26, 2019 in two shifts. The application process for this exam has already been done with. But the next event related to AIIMS MBBS admission is final registration for already registered candidates. This exam is conducted for MBBS admission across AIIMS Delhi, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Guntur, Nagpur, Raipur, and Rishikesh for 700 MBBS seats.
