GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) was launched by IIT Guwahati one day before the scheduled date. Whereas the official schedule indicated September 1, 2017 as the date of release of application form, it was actually opened on August 31, 2017. This was expected. It has almost been a ritual for organizing IIT to accomplish events a day early. Last year also the form was released early and also GATE result was announced one day too soon. This is after all a good thing for candidates who had been waiting eagerly for GATE application form 2018.

Ever since notification of GATE 2018 was released, the most discussed topic has been its age limit. Candidates have asked counsellors and many online forums on whether or not there is any age limit in GATE exam. There are, after all, several candidates who are working professionals or year droppers. The fact that PSUs are also recruiting on the basis of this exam has drawn the attention of older candidates also to appear in GATE.

Answer to above question on GATE age limit is that there is no age limit in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. Anyone can appear in it, as long as they satisfy educational and other eligibility criteria.

If one is looking to get admission in M.Tech, then usually institutes do not impose any age limit on that. Each IIT has a separate admission process. NITs, IIITs, CFTIs on the other hand take admission through CCMT. Therefore candidates must check eligibility criteria of IITs and CCMT also before taking the test.

Many PSUs on the other hand may impose age limits. PSU recruitment through GATE 2018 is being announced one by one by Public Sector Undertakings. Each has a separate eligibility criteria. Candidates must read the age limit of these recruitment before taking GATE exam, if getting a job in PSU is the only aim.

An engineering undergraduate degree holder must have completed graduation or should do it by 2018. Same applies to those who are from architecture field., and bachelor of science field.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering online application form must be submitted by October 5, 2017. Fee payment should also be done by this date. A candidate will most likely be allotted a centre in the examination city of his/her first choice. Only in cases, where there are too many candidates opting for a certain city as their first choice, the other two choices become relevant. A candidate is required to fill his/her choices of cities to appear in the examination, but should remember that because of operational constraints, the GATE committee reserves the right to add a new city or remove an existing one, and allot a city that may not be any of the choices of a candidate.
