NIRF Ranking 2018: Top Universities of India – IISc, JNU, BHU, Anna, UoH, JU, DU, Amrita, SPPU, AMU

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has been ranked as top University in India as per the list issued on Tuesday by Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar. National Institutional Ranking Framework, popularly known as NIRF Ranking 2018 list was published for higher education institutions at Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan yesterday. According to the list, IISc scored 82.16 and topped NIRF India Ranking 2018 list.

The institute was followed by JNU, BHU, Anna University, University of Hyderabad, Jadavpur University, University of Delhi, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, SPPU and AMU which the score of 67.57, 63.52, 62.82, 60.54, 59.68, 58.69, 58.46, 58.24 and 57.78, respectively.

The Ministry prepares the list considering various factors which include Teaching, Learning & Resources, Outreach and Inclusivity, Research and Professional Practice, Graduation Outcomes and Perception. NIRF Ranking 2018 has been provided for various institutions in categories of overall, Universities, Colleges, Pharmacy, Engineering, Medical, Law, Management, and Law.

Where IISc, JNU, and BHU are amongst the top 3 in Universities ranking, however, as per the overall NIRF Ranking 2018, Institutes such as IISc, IIT Madras and IIT Bombay as in top 3. There were 3 rank bands under which the position of Universities was kept. The first rank band includes the ranking from 1 to 100, second rank band ranking is from 101-150 and the third rank band shows the ranking from 151-200.

NIRF Ranking 2018

As per the reports, this year 3,954 institutions applied for NIRF Ranking 2018 which is approximately 745 more than the previous year when only 3,209 institutions had applied. Every year, the ministry releases the list of top Universities and Institutions in the country. The rank is determined on the basis of certain fixed criteria for various courses and fields.

Apart from the top 10 Universities according to NIRF Ranking 2018, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi is best Medical college and Indian Institute of Technology, Madras is listed as the best Engineering college in India.

In other categories, Indian Institute of Management (IIM)- Ahmedabad retains its top position just like last year in Management category. For Pharmacy, the institute that has obtained number 1 rank is National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Mohali. Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and Bengaluru’s National Law School of India University tops the chart in categories of Architecture and Law, respectively.

The list of top 10 colleges according to NIRF ranking 2018 includes the name of some of the prestigious DU Colleges including Miranda House, St. Stephen’s College, Bishop Heber College, Hindu College, Presidency College, Loyola College, Shri Ram College of Commerce, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira and Madras Christian College.

This system of providing ranks in various categories every year was introduced in the year 2016 by HRD Ministry to assist candidates to find the best college or institution for higher education. The framework sketches a methodology to rank institutions across India which also encourages the institutions to provide a better facility and work towards the improvement of the education system and overall development of the students.
