NEET 2022 Exam Happening Twiice

The NEET 2022 chapter begins, not with the National Testing Agency (NTA) releasing the application form but with rumours spreading around about two major changes in the exam format. Students are wondering whether NTA would remove the Physics section entirely from the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2022. Moreover, the talks on conducting multiple sessions are still not over. Students are also wondering about the possibility of the entrance exam being conducted twice next year. Read ahead to get more clarity about these two pertinent questions.

The discussion about holding NEET twice in a year regained momentum in 2019 when students began requesting the Ministry of Education to increase the attempts in a year. The same discussions happened in 2020 but were dismissed as the ministry could not introduce changes on such short notice. Moreover, the entrance exam in 2020 and 2021 was already delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, any chance of conducting the exam twice was ruled out.

Now, with the country recovering from the pandemic, there is a high possibility of NEET 2022 being conducted in May, next year. If this happens, the second attempt could be scheduled for July or August 2022. Considering the feasibility of two attempts, students are incessantly requesting more clarity from the NTA or education ministry. Multiple news reports are also claiming that the national-level entrance exam may be conducted multiple times in 2022.

Based on the schedule followed before the pandemic, NTA is likely to begin the NEET 2022 registration process in December 2021. Hence, with just a month left for registrations to begin, students have only a few days left to know the verdict!

Another question looming around about NEET 2022 is about the Physics section. Students are flooding social media platforms like Quora and Twitter asking whether NTA will remove Physics in next year’s paper. While the NTA is yet to provide any clarity on the matter, netizens and tutors closely following the NEET exam have shared their thoughts.

To begin with, scrapping Physics completely from NEET 2022 is not feasible unless presented with a reasonable explanation. Most NEET aspirants find Physics to be difficult to solve. But this cannot be a reason to completely remove the subject. Unlike popular understanding, Physics holds considerable importance in the medical field.

Physics helps doctors understand the mechanisms behind medical equipment. Moreover, it helps students build conceptual clarity while encouraging them to think deeper and harder. Hence, instead of scrapping Physics, NTA must focus on making Biology tougher rather than NCERT-centred.

However, if by any chance, Physics is scrapped keeping the level of Biology and Chemistry sections intact, it will have major implications on the overall NEET 2022 examination. The cut-off will sky-rocket, the competition for seats in medical colleges will become more concentrated. Moreover, with Physics out of the picture, anybody and everybody will be able to crack the exam. Hence, it is highly unlikely that Physics would be entirely scrapped. Students shall get more clarity on these two pressing issues once NTA releases the NEET 2022 information brochure.
