BJP MP, Subramanian Swamy, has advised the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to conduct National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)-2020, Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main-2020, and all similar exams after Diwali, i.e. in the 3rd or 4th week of November 2020. Through his twitter post, the BJP minister informed that he has talked to the education ministry and they are holding an emergency meeting. The final verdict of the same shall be announced soon.
His tweet post read as, “I a have already tweeted as well as conveyed to Education Minister that NEET exams should be after Deepavali. Minister is holding an emergency meeting. Let us see. I was asked to intervene by you all at a very late stage after SC had delivered its judgment”.

Though his initial tweet only referred to NEET 2020. However, soon the minister cleared the air and informed that his concern is for all the similar exams. Hence, including JEE Main, DUET, ICAR, UG NET, and other entrance exams under the umbrella. “When I said NEET exams postponement, I meant postponement of all similar Entrance Exams like JEE, etc!”
Recently, A plea was dismissed by the Supreme Court of India regarding the postponement of JEE and NEET 2020 on August 17, 2020. The plea sought to postpone both the national level exams due to spurt in the number of Covid-19 cases. However, SC dismissed the plea, justifying that further delay will hamper the career of the students.
Soon after it, NTA released admit card for JEE Main September exam. Today, the Agency also announced exam center for NEET 2020. The current dates for JEE Main are September 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 and the same for NEET 2020 is September 13.
This year, Diwali is on November 14 and if the exams are postponed then it will either be held in the end of November or by the mid of December 2020. This will bring a huge delay in the admission process and will eventually impact dates for JEE Main 2021 January attempt as well.
NTA is also due to conduct DUET from September 6 to 11, AIEEA UG from September 7 to 8 Sep, IGNOU OPENMAT MBA on September 15 Sep, UGC NET on September 16, 18, 21, 25 Sep, and AIAPGET on September 28 Sep, 2020. One more exam is scheduled in the month of October and it is IGNOU Ph.D.
Postponement of all the exams will cause immense pressure on NTA, which will be then conducting all the exams back to back in the month of November and December.
The candidates who have been taking social media by storm with protests for #PostponeJEE_NEETSept can now look forward to a decision soon. The request from the minister is like a ray of hope for those students and the parents who are every day praying for the delay in the exam date. The number of coronavirus cases in India now is above 2.9 lakh, with more than +5000 new cases every day.
